Welcome to June 📅

One of last week’s jobs certainly put me through my paces!

What started as back yard full of weeds over 3-4 feet tall looked more like a scene from the Amazon rainforest than a back yard. Some of the weeds had developed trunk-like stems that wouldn’t have looked out of place in a woodland! 🌳

After plenty of hard work, determination, and a fair bit of sweat, I finally got the garden back under control. The before and after photos show just how much difference a few hours work can make. 💪

🔧 FRIDAY FACT 🔧

The humble Allen key was invented in 1910 by William G. Allen, and it actually began as a safety invention rather than a DIY tool.

Back in the early factory days, workers’ loose clothing could easily get caught on protruding screws in machinery, causing serious injuries. Allen designed a screw with an internal hexagonal socket that sat flush inside the machine, making factories much safer.

To manufacture the new screws and matching hexagonal wrench, he founded the Allen Manufacturing Company in Hartford, Connecticut in 1910 …and thanks to the company’s success, the name “Allen key” stuck.

Welcome back after a lovely Bank Holiday weekend! ☀️

I had a brilliant time yesterday spending it with family and making the most of the amazing weather…of course, we had the obligatory BBQ 🍖.

Isn’t it funny how the sunshine has a way of showing up all those little jobs we’ve been putting off… 👀

Did you know WD-40 was originally invented to stop rockets rusting? 🚀

Back in 1953, chemist Norm Larsen created the formula to protect missile parts from rust and corrosion for the aerospace industry.

The name WD-40 literally stands for “Water Displacement, 40th formula”, because it took 40 attempts to get it right 👏

Today, it’s found in garages, sheds and toolboxes all over the world and is famous for loosening squeaky hinges and stubborn bolts 😄
