FOUND ON THIS WEEK'S REWIRE

This socket was wired in 1.0mm² cable and had both a washing machine and tumble dryer plugged in.

That is not something you want hidden behind a socket.

Undersized cable on a socket circuit can overheat and become a serious fire risk.

If you're unsure about your electrics, get them checked by a qualified electrician.

One of the questions we get asked quite a lot is what to expect during a rewire, and whether it's actually possible to stay in the house and sleep there while the work's being carried out.

This 4-bedroom property in Darlington still had much of its original wiring in use, so it was well overdue for a rewire.

The first part of the video shows the reality of a rewire while the work's being carried out. There is a lot of dust and mess involved, and whilst some customers do choose to stay in the property, we generally recommend staying elsewhere if possible while the work's being carried out.

Because we complete most rewires in around 3 to 4 days, that disruption is usually over a lot quicker than people expect.

The second half of the video shows the property after plaster repairs and our standard clean had been completed.

This full rewire was completed in just 4 days.

After a month of larger house rewires, the lads thought they had the wrong address when they turned up!

How much does a full house rewire actually cost?

This full house rewire came in at around £16,000, but this was a listed 6-bedroom Victorian property over in Riding Mill spread across 4 floors.

The customer was renovating the full property and wanted to future-proof the electrics throughout, with around 1,800 metres of cable used across the installation — compared to roughly 400–500 metres in a more standard house rewire.

The full rewire was completed in around a week by the team.

Recently completed this full house rewire at a listed 6-bedroom Victorian property over in Riding Mill.

Spread across 4 floors, this was one of the larger domestic rewires we’ve carried out recently, with the customer renovating the full property and wanting to future-proof the electrics throughout.

Because the property is listed and still has a number of original internal features, a lot of planning and care went into the installation to make sure everything was completed as neatly as possible while preserving the character of the property.

The full rewire was completed in just 1 week and also included supplying power out to a detached garage along with installation of an Ohme ePod EV charger.
