I am a qualified sole-practitioner and I formed ATELIER GUY Residential Architecture in 2011 and the core focus of my practice is within the housing sector. I specialise in single and double storey extensions, loft conversions, internal alterations, remodelling, new-build dwellings, conversions and change-of-use applications. EXPERIENCE

ence in the sector I have extensive knowledge of the planning system and able to navigate the complex process on your behalf. I run a very cost-aware practice and my core focus is to ‘design-out’ expense from the outset within my designs and I understand that every project has a unique budget that limits its possibilities. I also understand that your home is the biggest asset you will own, so my aim is always to add value to it both commercially and improving the quality of your everyday life. SERVICES OFFERED

I work within a mix of very traditional architecture right up to the more contemporary high-end point of the market. Trained in hand-drawn techniques and fully conversant in the use of computer-aided software to communicate designs and ideas I am content working on Grade II Listed Buildings right through to the modernist and minimal. I can offer you a full Royal Institute British Architects (RIBA) service from inception to completion be it design, planning applications, building regulations drawings, tender action, appointment of contractor and project managing the build to practical completion. Or I can offer you a partial service to obtain the necessary planning and building regulations approvals if you are managing your own project. I have extensive experience working with Grade II Listed Dwellings, works in Conservation Areas, National Parks and obtaining planning permission on difficult or restrained sites. The decision which route to follow is often determined by your confidence in the building process, scale of the project and of course your budget.

NEW APPOINTMENT : THE BRAMBLES, CROWTHORNE, BERKSHIRE

This is our 3rd project on The Brambles, Crowthorne. Our previous 2 projects concentrated on the same design: extending to the rear. Our project seeks to extend to the rear and building over the existing garage.

The Brambles has a restrictive covenant preventing extensions over said garages, which we have now had removed legally on our client’s property – we expect other extensions to follow on the same road!

This will turn the property in to 5 bed detached dwelling with extensive extensions to the ground floor, bringing it the largest on the road by far.

A result already!

NEW APPOINTMENT : HATCH RIDE, CROWTHORNE, BERKSHIRE

An exciting new appointment has just landed in the office on a lovely property on Hatch Ride, Crowthorne. The existing property is a semi-detached dwelling that has previously been extended 20 odd years ago, however the layouts do not work for the new owners.

The brief consists of re-organising the space and small extensions to focus on a new living space overlooking the extensive gardens that the dwelling sits on.

A full building regs package will then be produced for LA approval and for woks to begin. As the rooms will change in occupancy building regs are always required in these circumstances.

NEW APPOINTMENT : COBHAM, SURREY.

I am delighted to have been appointed to extend a Victorian semi-detached property in Cobham, Surrey. The client is looking to allow for a large kitchen / diner / family room to increase the ground floor space and to maximise the interaction with the existing garden.

Victorian properties are great to work on as they always come with 2 large reception rooms and galleried kitchens with side access and this makes them great to extend and utilise the existing layouts to provide for a larger footprint.

DESIGNS PUT FORWARD: YATELEY, HAMPSHIRE

Designs have been put forward for alterations and extensions to a large detached property within Cricket Hill Conservation Area. The proposals involve converting the existing garage in to a new family room with re-organisation of back-up spaces to the existing kitchen.

The first floor really takes off with the addition of a new master suite built over the existing garage with bathrooms and dressing rooms. An additional ensuite is also added to a further double bedroom, lifting it to a 5 bedroom, 3 ensuite property with family bathrooms serving the remaining 2 bedrooms.

Externally the property has been visually broken up with a new gable built over the existing study to avoid a large linear run of roofs – which could look a bit ‘office like’!

DESIGNS PUT FORWARD: SOUTHAMPTON, HAMPSHIRE.

A project from April has finally been given the go-ahead and designs have now been put forward. The existing property is 1930s detached detached dwelling with white painted brickwork, and to split the visual up the rear of the extension will be clad in Larchwood with zinc roofing. The pitch of the roof can also be played with an offset-balanced to the width of the extension with the height accentuated with floor to ceiling; ‘slit’ windows which will also throw in interesting light shadowing as the sun moves around during the day.

Internally – large open plan living, vaulted ceiling with rooflights over – let’s hope for a positive acceptance.
