Neil Smith appointed Director General of Association of Manufacturers of Power Generating Systems 👇

AMPS has announced the appointment of Neil Smith as its new Director General, marking an important step for the association as it continues to represent and support the UK’s power generation sector.

Neil brings extensive industry knowledge and leadership experience to the role and will work closely with AMPS members, the Board and wider stakeholders to champion the sector, strengthen member engagement and support the association’s ongoing work across standards, skills, sustainability and industry representation.

The appointment comes at a key time for the sector, with power generation continuing to play a vital role in supporting construction, infrastructure, events, emergency back-up power and wider industry resilience.

Viki Bell, CEO of the CEA, welcomed the appointment and said:

“On behalf of the CEA, I would like to congratulate Neil Smith on his appointment as Director General of AMPS. AMPS plays an important role in representing the power generation sector, and its members are closely connected to many of the industries we work with across construction equipment, plant hire and infrastructure.

“Neil’s appointment comes at a time when energy resilience, cleaner power solutions and practical support for industry are high on the agenda. We look forward to working with him and the AMPS team as they continue to support their members and represent such an important part of the supply chain.”

Construction Equipment Association (CEA)-funded Combined Industries Theft Solutions CITS training supports police recovery of stolen high-value equipment👇

CEA-funded police training has delivered a clear operational result after officers used knowledge gained at a recent CITS event to help identify stolen surveying equipment during a search linked to a burglary investigation.

The case came to light following a message of thanks from PC Will Durant, Ops Command Intelligence Officer, who contacted those involved in the training to explain how officers had put what they had learned into practice.

Officers had recently attended a CITS police training event in Sussex, supported by the CEA (Construction Equipment Association). CITS (Combined Industries Theft Solutions) is an industry-led group that brings together businesses, police and security specialists to tackle theft in sectors where high-value equipment is regularly targeted by criminals.

US tariff changes leave UK position unchanged as EU moves into line👇

David Waine, Construction Equipment Association (CEA), Trade Advocate said: “There are some cautiously positive points in the latest Section 232 tariff adjustment. The UK position appears to be unaffected, while several other trading partners, including the EU, have seen an improvement in their position.

“For the UK construction equipment sector, the direct impact appears limited, with no material change to the UK’s current position. The UK still retains a competitive advantage over some markets facing higher tariff rates, while the EU’s move into line with the UK should help ease pressure on European manufacturing groups and wider supply chains.

“That matters because many CEA members in the UK are part of wider European groups, with headquarters, manufacturing operations or supply chains across Europe. Any easing of pressure on those wider group structures may help support confidence and future investment decisions.

“That said, the wider US trade environment remains complex. Separate proposals linked to forced labour enforcement will also need careful monitoring, particularly for manufacturers with international supply chains.

“CEA will continue to monitor developments closely and keep members informed where there is a direct impact on the UK construction equipment sector.”
