A charger on the wall is not a finished job. The handover is where the trust is. We do not leave until you are confident.

The UK now has over 120,000 public chargepoints across more than 45,000 locations. Every motorway service area in England has at least six rapid or ultra-rapid chargers. The infrastructure excuse for avoiding long distances in an EV has run out.

Two rules make a first EV road trip simple: plan to charge when you drop to around 20%, and leave each charger at 80%. You spend the least time plugged in and stay comfortably inside your range.

Worth knowing before you go: a car that accepts 50kW DC will not charge any faster at a 300kW unit. Check your car's maximum DC rate in the manual first.

In 2026, the UK's public EV charging network surpassed 120,000 chargepoints across more than 45,000 locations. Should you charge your EV to 80% or 100% overnight? Your neighbour says 80. The forums say 100 is fine. The manual says something else again.

Lithium batteries are happiest in the middle of their range, which is why Tesla, VW, Nissan, Hyundai and Kia all set 80% as the default for daily use. A UK study of over 8,000 used EVs across 36 brands found average battery health still at 95.15%, but the spread widened sharply on older cars charged to 100% every night for years.

Charging to 100% occasionally will not ruin anything. What matters more is not leaving a full battery sitting unused all day.

The honest answer, and how to set it once and forget it πŸ‘‡

You set up your new home charger, plug in on the first night, and then pause. Should you let it charge all the way to 100%, or set it to stop at 80%? You have heard both arguments. Your neighbour says 80. Someone in an EV forum says 100 is fine. The car manual says something different again.

UK estate agents put the figure at Β£3,000 to Β£5,000. That is what a properly fitted home EV charger can add to your property's value.

Rightmove has seen "EV charger" climb in both property search terms and listing descriptions, and with over 2 million EVs on UK roads, buyers are now asking about it alongside broadband speed and boiler age.

One warning: a charger fitted without the right certification can count against you. A surveyor who spots a non-compliant install flags it as a defect, not an asset.

Here is what buyers and surveyors actually check πŸ‘‡

Something shifted in UK property viewings over the past couple of years. Alongside the broadband speed and boiler age, buyers are increasingly asking: "Does it have an EV charger?" Rightmove has reported a significant uptick in "EV charger" appearing in both property search terms and listing descrip...
