Then there were 4 …
Sad morning routine as the smallest of the 5 ducklings has died overnight. It was not quite right yesterday but sadly went downhill quicker than I expected. So sad when they are so tiny and vulnerable but I have to harden to it slightly as this happens and it’s usually the smallest cutest ones because they tend to be small for a reason 😢

Peonies in full, fluffy bloom don’t like the sort of rain we’ve had today. It sure did rain heavily.

The ducks were happy though 😂 big

You’d think a mother duck would love these ducklings but no!
Duck Duck has spent 11 hours on the loose today. A surprisingly good flyer who will be having her wings clipped tomorrow!
She’s back now but it’s been a long day!

A busy couple of mornings here at Berry’s Orchard.
Duck Duck is sat on 16 eggs we have 5 ducklings so far. Probably won’t get many more but for the past three mornings I’ve had little surprises, they are so cute 🥰
It’s interesting to see how active they are very soon after hatching. They will be able to swim very soon.

Unlike the doves! Their babies are not so cute and that’s putting it mildly! I’m amazed at how dependant on the adult birds they are, they won’t be able to fly for a few weeks and so in the wild they must be very vulnerable to predators.

Beautiful blue sky but what really makes my heart sing is seeing the doves in full flight❤️
This is Chester and the two babies, Sherry is on the nest (again)!
