We’ve been carrying out more and more of this type of work recently for both buyers and sellers, helping get roofing issues highlighted on property surveys professionally resolved.

On this property, the HomeBuyer Report identified deterioration to the existing verge, which required attention as part of the sale.

Sometimes it’s not just about getting the job done — it’s about getting it done when the customer needs you most.

We were recently contacted by a customer in Stapleford who had been let down by another contractor and needed their flat roof completed urgently.

Their rendering team was ready to start, but they couldn’t begin until the roofing work was finished, so we got the job booked in and pulled out all the stops to keep the project moving.

This wasn’t just a straightforward roof replacement either. We carried out a full upgrade, including:

🔨 New insulation
🔨 New fascias
🔨 New guttering and downpipes
🔨 All completed ready for the rendering team to continue

🏠 Small roof, big difference! — Chilwell 🏠

We recently attended a property in Chilwell where a leaking flat roof had unfortunately started causing damage inside the property, leaving the plasterwork badly affected.

We removed the failed roof covering and installed a new rubber flat roof system, giving the customer a watertight and long-lasting solution.

But we didn’t stop there…

As the leak had already caused damage internally, we arranged for our plasterer and painter to come in and put everything right inside as well.

That meant the customer didn’t have to worry about finding different trades, organising extra work or trying to coordinate everything themselves — we took care of the whole job from start to finish. 👍

🏆 JOB OF THE WEEK — Papplewick, Nottingham 🏆

This one was a proper transformation! 👌

We recently had the pleasure of working on this beautiful old converted hay barn in Papplewick, Nottingham, dating back to around the 1800s and forming part of an old group of farm buildings.

The existing roof had seen better days, with old slates in a seriously deteriorated condition and a fair amount of rotten timber underneath.

After carefully stripping the old roof, we carried out extensive timber repairs, replacing rotten rafters and other structural timberwork where required.

The new roof was then completed using a lightweight composite slate, giving the building a traditional appearance while providing a much more durable and practical roofing system.

We also installed:

🔨 Maintenance-free dry hip and ridge systems
🔨 New leadwork
🔨 Full chimney repointing
🔨 Extensive rafter and timber repairs
🔨 All structural works carried out in accordance with a Structural Engineer’s Report
🔨 Work completed with Building Control inspections and to current Building Regulations

And what a difference! 🤩

From a roof that was badly deteriorated and in need of serious attention, to a fully renewed, structurally sound and great-looking roof that complements this fantastic old building.

A little bit of everything on this one 👌

A few weeks back we were out in Stapleford carrying out work for a local mortgage company on one of their stairwells.

This one involved a combination of cladding and insulation works, along with some routine flat roof repairs and preventative maintenance.

Nothing too flashy — just good, practical work carried out properly to keep the building protected, improve the area and help prevent small issues from turning into expensive problems further down the line.

Take a look through our before, during and after photos to see the incredible transformation on this property.

This was a full roofing renovation, where we stripped back the existing roof and upgraded it using modern, maintenance-free systems and high-quality materials throughout.

The work carried out included:

✔️ Installation of new maintenance-free dry ridge and dry hip systems, providing long-lasting protection without the need for traditional mortar.

✔️ All new leadwork installed around the chimney to ensure a durable, weatherproof finish.

✔️ Brand-new soffits and fascias fitted around the entire property, giving the home a clean and modern appearance while improving ventilation and protection.

✔️ Removal of two old, tired flat roofs, along with an unused steel RSJ, to make way for a complete warm roof upgrade.

✔️ Construction of new warm roof systems using 150mm PIR insulation and vapour barriers to improve energy efficiency and thermal performance.

✔️ The new flat roofs were then finished with high-performance EPDM rubber roofing, offering exceptional durability and longevity.

✔️ Installation of three new Velux roof windows, complete with solar-powered blinds and fly screens, allowing plenty of natural light into the property while maintaining comfort all year round.

This property received a full reroof using high-quality Marley concrete tiles, along with a complete dry fix system including dry hips, dry ridges, and a dry valley system for a durable, maintenance-free finish.

Works carried out included:

For anyone who doesn’t know me, I’m Laurence, the owner of LS Roofing & Building.

Here’s a little behind-the-scenes look at what happens when a ginger roofer spends all day on a scaffold in 33°C heat finishing a reroof… 🌞🥵

The roof got finished, the customer was happy, and I narrowly avoided turning into a human crisp.

Running a roofing company isn’t always glamorous. Sometimes it’s long days, hard graft, and standing fully clothed under a hosepipe trying to cool down before you burst into flames.
