If your budget doesn’t quite cover a solar battery is it wise to cut the number of panels, then add more later?

We asked Jerome - his advice is that the panels are the cheapest part of an install but adding more down the line can be costly. Maximise the panels then add a battery, but don’t leave it too long.

Every solar PV installation needs a grid connection... but what is it and why is it needed?
From 1st May 2026, solar PV installations in NI can apply for a G99/NI Fast Track application. It's a little more expensive, needs a bit more time and experience to submit but it can increase the generation limits of a domestic or small business PV system.
With three main grid connections in Northern Ireland, understanding which is needed and right for your solar system can be tricky. With 15 years' experience, we're able to advise and assist throughout the process to ensure you're getting the best long-term value solution.
Read more about the changes to the grid connection on our blog, and get in touch with any questions.

G99/NI Fast Track: Increased Capacity

We are delighted to announce that from today, you will be able to apply for a G99/NI Fast Track installation of up to 60A per phase, increased from the current 16A per phase, making renewable connections faster and more flexible for customers and installers across Northern Ireland.

This change creates a simpler application process, reduced approval times and a faster return on investment for customers.

In the news today: NI homes to get smart meters from 2028.

The introduction of smart meters in NI is expected to begin in 2028 - giving bill payers more visibility of their energy consumption and removing the need for estimated bills.

One major mindset shift we see when installing PV systems is the awareness of when to power up the washing machine, or the need to stagger high energy appliances. The introduction of smart meters will help consumers to understand their own energy use.

Smart meters are widely used in the rest of the UK and in Ireland, providing real-time information to energy suppliers.
