🌿 A great evening for Dunfermline 🌿

Last week I joined the Dunfermline Round Table for a community litter pick along the Tower Burn Trail and it’s fair to say it was a huge success.

What stood out most wasn’t just the amount of rubbish we cleared, but the number of people who showed up, gave their time, and got stuck in. There was a real sense of community and pride in the place.

As an architect working locally through Spirit + Structure Architecture, I care a lot about how our towns feel, not just how they look. Small actions like this make a real difference to the everyday experience of a place.

It was great to be part of something so simple but so positive.

Big credit to Dunfermline Round Table for organising it and for everything they do locally.

***Reminder about our community litter pick this Thursday - message to get involved***
📍 Tower Burn Trail
📅 Thursday 26th March
⏰ 6pm to 8pm
Dunfermline Round Table will be spending a couple of hours giving the trail a tidy up and everyone is welcome to come along and help.

No special skills required. If you can spot litter and put it in a bag, you’re already qualified.

Come along for some fresh air, a good chat and the warm feeling that comes from doing something positive for the community.
Gloves recommended. Hero capes optional.
And if you’ve ever wondered what Round Table is all about, this is a great chance to meet the guys. We’re always looking for new members who fancy making new mates, getting involved locally and doing a bit of good along the way.

Architecture has no postcode.

The right project is not defined by proximity. It is defined by intent.

Recent weeks have taken me across Scotland and down into England. Conservation settings. Traditional stone buildings. Beautiful open landscapes. Homes with history and homes ready to evolve.

What draws me is not scale or location, but ambition.
The ambition to create something thoughtful.
Something carefully grounded in its surroundings.
Something that genuinely improves how you live.

The most meaningful projects begin with listening. With understanding place. With restraint where it matters and clarity where it counts.

THE SPACE WAS ALWAYS THERE
Before & After

This semi detached post war home did not gain a single extra square metre.

Instead, we looked carefully at what was already there.

By removing built in wardrobes and reworking the layout, we carved out space for a much needed ensuite and giving this growing family the second bathroom they desperately needed.

No extension.
No added footprint.
Just smarter design.

Clever space saving measures were key. Every millimetre mattered. The right sanitaryware proportions. Sliding access. Refined circulation. And carefully selected cabinetry that suited the space rather than overwhelming it.

Storage was not sacrificed, it was redesigned.

When constraints are tight, good design becomes sharper. More deliberate. More inventive.

Anthony was brilliant throughout. Open, collaborative and fully invested in getting this right. The best projects always come from that trust.

This is what unlocking potential looks like.

Not building more - building better.

This one feels special.

Our Lundin Links project sits just beside a conservation area, so every move had to be thoughtful, restrained and respectful of its setting.

An early twentieth century stone cottage, full of character and memory, now carefully improved to better support the lives of its owners.

This was never about adding for the sake of adding.

It was about refining.
Elevating.
Introducing warmth, light and flow while protecting the integrity of the original building.

The new kitchen and utility extension bring exposed birch veneer ply, carefully detailed joinery and a bespoke kitchen that feels grounded and crafted rather than imposed. The vaulted ceiling gently lifts the space, drawing daylight deep into the heart of the home.

Small shifts. Meaningful change.

The most rewarding projects are the ones that genuinely improve everyday life. Better mornings. Better light. Better movement through the space.

A huge thank you to our brilliant clients for trusting the process and for allowing such care and ambition in shaping their home. Without them, none of this would have happened.

It has been a little quiet on here recently, but behind the scenes it has been anything but quiet.
What a start to 2026.

Approvals landing.
Conservation projects progressing.
Internal reconfigurations unlocking potential.
Busy site visits across beautiful parts of Scotland. Quarries. Traditional stone buildings. Landscapes that remind you why place matters.

There is something incredibly grounding about shaping homes that sit gently within their context. About working with existing buildings rather than against them.

It has been a strong few weeks and there is a lot more to share.

A closer look at the new kitchen and utility room extension for our Lundin Links project, now officially in for Building Warrant 🎉

The home is an early twentieth century stone built cottage with so much character, so the design has been shaped to feel respectful and calm while introducing a fresh modern energy.

Materiality plays a big part here.
Beautiful exposed birch veneer ply forms the cabinetry, shelving and pantry wall, all crafted by with their usual care and precision. From the birch ply joinery through to the striking bespoke worktop with its seamless integrated sink. A complete handcrafted package that brings warmth and character to the whole extension.

The vaulted ceiling draws daylight deep into the kitchen, washing over the warm timber and making the whole space feel bright and uplifting. The new utility ties in neatly with the palette, giving the home a clearer and more practical layout without losing its charm.

A closer look at this Aberdeen project and the little details that make it feel special ✨

The extension takes the form of a simple timber box but the atmosphere is anything but simple. Warm natural materials soft daylight and views of planting create a peaceful retreat that feels deeply connected to the garden 🌱🌾
A quiet place to work rest and breathe.

Inside you will find a long timber desk, full width glazing and a skylight that draws the sky right into the room ☁️🌤️
The shower room adds a richer mood with deep green tiling terrazzo flooring and warm brass touches 💚🪨✨

A little before and after from this lovely Edinburgh project ✨
It is always amazing to look back and see how far a space has come. What was once tight dark and disconnected is now calm warm and full of gentle daylight.

Soft textures natural materials and a clearer flow have completely changed the feel of the home. Small thoughtful moves can make such a meaningful difference.

This extension is built around one simple idea.
An elegant timber box that feels calm and warm, opening quietly to the garden 🌿
From outside it reads as a clean sculpted form. Step inside and it becomes a concealed cosy space for working relaxing and enjoying this little garden oasis ☀️✨

🥳 Dunfermline Round Table is celebrating 70 years this year, and I’m proud to be a part of it! 🥳

On 11th October, I’ll be joining my fellow Tablers to walk 70 kilometres across the Forth Road Bridge. It’s our way of marking this milestone and raising funds so we can keep supporting brilliant causes in the Dunfermline community.

I’ve seen first-hand the difference Round Table makes locally, and every donation helps us carry that work forward. Charity and community service mean a lot to me personally.
