Complete refurbishment of a rear garden area, involving the removal of existing ground cover, installation of a new drainage system, and laying of large-format porcelain or concrete paving slabs to create a durable and aesthetically pleasing outdoor space.
Construction Methodology
1. Site Clearance & Excavation
• Removed all existing topsoil, vegetation, and debris from the area.
• Excavated the ground to the required depth to accommodate the sub-base, bedding layer, and paving slabs.
• Ensured the formation level was set correctly to allow for adequate falls away from the property to facilitate water runoff.
2. Drainage Installation
• Installed a continuous channel drainage system along the entire perimeter adjacent to the building.
• This system was set into a concrete bed and connected to ensure effective collection and dispersion of surface water, preventing pooling and protecting the property foundation from damp.
3. Sub-Base Preparation
• Laid a layer of crushed hardcore or stone aggregate to the specified depth.
• Compacted the material thoroughly using a vibrating plate compactor to create a solid, stable foundation that prevents future settlement.
• Applied a sharp sand or bedding layer on top, screeding it perfectly level and to the correct gradients.
4. Paving Installation
• Carefully measured and planned the layout to minimize cuts and ensure an even, symmetrical pattern.
• Cut slabs to size using a disc cutter or saw as required for edges and corners.
• Laid the large-format slabs onto the prepared bed, using a full bed of mortar or appropriate adhesive depending on the material.
• Ensured precise alignment, consistent joint widths, and correct levels throughout.
• Tapped down firmly to ensure full contact and stability.
5. Finishing Works
• Filled joints between slabs with a suitable pointing compound or kiln-dried sand to lock the paving in place and prevent w**d growth.
• Cleaned the surface thoroughly to remove any mortar, cement residue, or marks.
• Removed all waste materials and rubble from the site, leaving the area clean and ready
