Yard Person – Full-Time Permanent Position

We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Yard Person to join our team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the yard, assisting customers and ensuring vehicles are loaded safely and efficiently.

Key Duties

- Loading vehicles with aggregate/concrete safely and efficiently
- Serving and assisting customers in the yard
- Operating yard machinery and equipment
- Carrying out routine maintenance and basic repairs on machinery
- Keeping the yard clean, tidy and organised
- Following health and safety procedures at all times
- Working as part of a busy team

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

- Hardworking and reliable
- Physically fit and willing to work outdoors in all weather
- Friendly and customer-focused
- Practical and confident working with machinery
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Safety-conscious

Previous experience in a yard, quarry, agricultural or similar environment would be an advantage, but full training can be provided for the right person.

Contract: Permanent including alternative Saturday mornings

With each passing day, visible change is happening at South Street as construction progresses.

Foundations, underbuilding and steelwork are progressing for the delivery of 38 affordable one and two-bedroom flats as part of the Housing Mix Delivery which will surround the future public courtyard.

While the current focus remains on delivering the new high-quality homes, the next phases will include development of three new small retail/commercial units and the Business Enterprise Hub, alongside the reinstatement of the pedestrian link between South Street and High Street.

You might have also noticed that the ground floor of the former Gordon Arms Hotel is now a fully established site welfare facility for South Street. With its proximity to the site, it makes an ideal space for the construction team.

About the Role
Experience operating and maintaining quarry machinery is preferred but not essential, as full training will be provided for the right candidate.
We're looking for a proactive individual who can work both independently and as part of a team, ensuring all duties are carried out to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities
• Operate and maintain a range of quarry machinery and equipment.
• Assist with loading and unloading materials.
• Carry out routine inspections and basic maintenance to ensure equipment performs efficiently.
• Follow all health and safety procedures and maintain a clean, safe working environment.
• Report any equipment faults or operational concerns promptly.

What We're Looking For
• Mechanical knowledge and the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.
• Experience operating excavators and wheel loaders (highly desirable).
• Good communication skills.
• A positive attitude and strong work ethic.
• The ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.

QUARRY OPERATIVE

Tennant’s Elgin is looking for a quarry operative to join our workforce. Experience in operating and maintenance the quarry machines would be preferable but not essential as training would be provided.
