Resident Engineer/Owner Jolyon Holroyd -South West Music Awards 'Music Producer of the Year 2014' Valvetastic Studio is a boutique recording Studio in South West England.Run by Award winning producer Jolyon Holroyd.(South West Music Awards Producer of the year 2013) engineer musician and producer Jolyon uses a selection of classic microphones by Neumann Rode Shure and Audix, alongside Pre-Amps by

Neve, Avalon, Universal Audio, Phoenix and Focusrite. Valvetastic is equipped with a large collection of vintage and classic electric guitars and amplifiers. Valvetastic also hires a Yamaha/Electrovoice 3k PA system with Jolyon live sound engineering for small to mid size venues.To date, clients include The Stranglers, Miranda Sykes, The Fiction Aisle, Electric Soft Parade, Clowwns, Idiom, Wildwood Kin, Sound of the Sirens, Phillip Henry and Hannah Martin, Greg Hancock, Sadie Horler, Carnivala, Count to Fire, The Standing Waves,The Fireflies, The Akibas, Mani, Maz Totterdell, Hot Dub Bikini Party, Terrible Strangers, Kaya Street,The Black Thistles, Dan Schamroth and the British Wildflowers, Tobias Ben Jacob and Lukas Drinkwater, Zuri Aura, The Idlemen,
-amongst others. Valvetastic also has a photography and film making service for short music videos or live event capture.

A squeaky drum stool was today's only surmountable problem thanks to WD40 and Maz with her perfectly nailed takes all day long.

When I get a day off there's nothing I love more than experimenting with my gear and my spaces, today I moved my 'drum room ribbons' around from wide spaced to Blumlein, placing them up against the ceiling , the walls and just about everywhere in a quest to find the sweetest configuration that I could. In the end I discovered that blumlein at around ribcage height placed centrally in the clear two thirds section of the room gave me the most gorgeous punch and balance. I love these RØDE Microphones NTR beauties, super low noise, rich and open with high gain from phantom power and with amazingly functional and reliable mounts for quick easy placement.

First time tracking Viola in the studio for Sophie today and it turned out she was a natural. Completely nailed it. Mid Side through the Vanguard Audio Labs V44S Mk1 which is fast becoming valvetastic's favourite, and most useful microphone. Big thanks to Derek at Vanguard for his great response and help this week with the replacement cable which I didn't need in the end.

New Snare day at Valvetastic today, from Left to Right the brand new Arcadia 8x14"Acrylic, Black Magic 6.5x14" Steel, Red Gum Over Maple 6.5x14", Gretsch Renown Maple 5x14" with Die Cast Hoops, 1970s Premier Steel 5x14" with Die Cast Hoops and last but my current fave the Signature Maple 6.5x14"...suffice to say we probably have you covered.

Today was all about tracking string quartet with the brilliant Joe Violin Mansfield who pulled off perfect gorgeous violins viola and cello...tracking up a symphonic storm all four from his clever hands with compositional guidance from . The music is sounding LUSH!
