Long time, no post...

The last couple of months have flown by.

The first big change you'll probably notice is that the van has had a fresh new look, thanks to the talented team at Appeal Media. Safe to say it's a bit easier to spot on the road now!

Since the last update, we've been fortunate enough to work on a fantastic variety of projects across the UK, including:

A large PAS128 utility survey over several weeks at a college campus, helping provide a detailed understanding of the underground infrastructure.

Topographical and PAS128 surveys in Helensburgh, St Andrews and East Kilbride supporting the redesign of external supermarket layouts.

A large-scale topographical survey in Grangemouth providing the data needed to assist with the design of a proposed new road route.

A trip down to Norwich to carry out 3D laser scanning on a new-build onshore converter station.

A substantial Topographical and PAS128 survey in Banchory, Aberdeenshire, supporting another exciting development.

And, as always, keeping an eye on the structures around us with our ongoing bridge monitoring programme, carrying out regular monthly monitoring on a number of bridges.

Looking back, it's been another reminder of why we enjoy what we do so much. One week we're laser scanning cutting-edge infrastructure, the next we're walking miles on a topographical survey, locating buried utilities, or monitoring bridges. No two weeks are ever the same, and that's exactly how we like it.

Another busy month so far — and plenty more miles added to the van.

May started off down in Bury, Manchester carrying out borehole clearance surveys ahead of GI works at a large industrial complex. Always good to help make sure everything is safely mapped out before intrusive works begin.

From there, it was back up to Scotland for a run of Topographical and PAS128 surveys across various sites in Stirling and Callander ahead of coring works taking place. We also completed a large-scale topographical survey in Stirling to assist the local authority with the design of a new drainage line, requiring accurate level information over quite a distance.

Then it was back down south again — this time to Teesside — carrying out another Topographical & PAS128 survey to support the design and installation of new infrastructure.

And finally, back up to Skye for another project combining topographical and PAS128 surveys. The weather definitely wasn’t as kind as our last few trips there recently, but even in the rain it’s hard to complain too much when that’s your office for the day.

A real mix of projects, locations, weather, and miles covered already this month.

How are we in May already?

April flew by… and it was a busy one.

Started the month off in Edinburgh, carrying out laser scanning works at a pharmaceutical plant to support piping design and clash detection — always good to see how that level of detail feeds directly into the next stage of a project.

Then it was down to Rotherham for a large topographical survey, helping a client move forward with planning permission and giving the arborist the info needed to carry out their works.

After that, most of April was spent up in the Highlands — covering multiple sites across the Isle of Skye, Kyle of Lochalsh, and Fort William. Carrying out topographical and PAS128 surveys, with a blend of day shifts and night shifts to keep things interesting.
We were very lucky with the weather for a change — the waterproofs stayed packed away and the Factor 50 got plenty of use instead. Not a bad office when the sun’s out in that part of the world.

We even managed a quick stop at Eilean Donan Castle on the way to Skye and Kyle to take in the views… although slightly disappointed not to be asked to feature in the next Highlander film. Maybe next time.

Another busy month — covering the length and breadth of Scotland.

It’s been one of those months where no two jobs are the same, and the van’s barely had a chance to cool down.

We kicked things off with additional topographical and PAS128 surveys at SFRS HQ in Cambuslang, supporting a new solar farm installation on an already impressive site.
From there, it was into Glasgow city centre for works tied to new EV charger installations, followed by a run of projects across remote locations throughout Scotland — carrying out a mix of topographical, PAS128 and CCTV drainage surveys to support EV infrastructure rollouts.

We also got two bridge monitoring projects up and running — installing control, completing traverses, and taking initial readings ahead of ongoing monthly monitoring.
Somewhere in between, there was a very wet and windy nightshift checking settlement on a recently upgraded road, along with:
* A topographical & PAS128 survey in Coatbridge
* A large PAS128 survey in Hawick as part of road upgrades
* And works in Alloa, supporting a new EV installation at a coach depot

It’s been great to be involved in so many projects recently focused on EV infrastructure and solar developments, for a range of clients and across sites of all sizes — from small installs to large-scale upgrades.
A busy month, plenty of miles, and a lot of interesting work helping shape what’s coming next.

Some snaps from a topographical survey we carried out in Stirling recently. The survey was undertaken to support engineers within the local authority who are looking at potential design and upgrade works in the area, so our job was to capture the detail on the ground to help inform the next stages.

Not a bad office for the day either (if you don’t mind a bit of rain). One of the photos shows a great view of Stirling Bridge taken from the newer bridge nearby, and if you look closely in another shot you can just spot Wallace Monument making a guest appearance in the background.

Always nice when a job comes with a bit of scenery and history thrown in.

A bit of everything lately — and that’s exactly how we like it.

It’s been a busy spell with a real mix of projects on the go across the UK, keeping things interesting (and the van well used).

Up in the north west of Scotland, we’ve been carrying out laser scanning and volume calculations at multiple depots, capturing detailed data across numerous stockpiles. Not always glamorous work, but accurate volumes make a big difference when it comes to planning and operations.

Closer to home, we completed a PAS128 utility detection and topographical survey in Rosyth, supporting the design of new paving layouts and cable routes. A solid example of above- and below-ground data working together.

We’ve also spent several weekends surveying schools across East Lothian, delivering PAS128 and topographical surveys to support extensions and enabling works. Carrying these out at weekends helped avoid any disruption to day-to-day school life — always a priority on projects like these.

And finally, down to Hull, where we carried out a PAS128 utility survey ahead of a new foul system installation. This included accurately locating the existing foul drainage — proof that not every survey comes with scenic views… but they’re just as important.

A proper mix of sites, sectors, and conditions — and a good reminder that every project plays its part, whether it’s volumes, utilities, or planning what comes next.

January has already been a busy one, with a varied mix of work across multiple sectors and locations. Here are some of the highlights so far:

Fraserburgh
We kicked things off with a topographical survey in a newly thawed Fraserburgh (always a welcome sight in January!). The survey is supporting the design and installation of a new refrigeration unit for a large supermarket.

Outskirts of Edinburgh
Next came another topographical survey, this time alongside structural engineers planning steelwork installation on a challenging sloped site. A great example of how accurate survey data underpins strong early-stage design.

Cumbernauld
A weekend call-out took us to a busy access road serving a site that requires 24-hour access. A leaking water pipe needed to be precisely located before repairs could begin, making speed and accuracy absolutely essential.

Selby – Drax Power Station
We carried out some utility detection works at the impressive Drax Power Station — always a privilege to work on a site of this scale and significance.

It’s been a strong start to the year: plenty of miles covered, plenty of data captured, and plenty more to come in 2026.

As we sign off for the festive season, I’d like to say a sincere thank you to everyone we have worked with this year.

We recently completed a large topographical survey spanning several hectares on the outskirts of Fort William, assisting an architect with data to support a planning application.

Working against the stunning backdrop of the Nevis Range, our total station captured the detail needed to inform the next stage of design.

Even with challenging terrain, accurate, reliable survey data remains the foundation of successful planning.
And, of course, no trip to the Highlands would be complete without meeting a few locals…
We even managed a bit of networking while on site — though our new Highland contact seemed more interested in grass than any chat.
