Dead standing Alder trees 🪾

After receiving a call from one of our customers who had concerns for the safety of their property after noticing that their Alder trees had died, we went out to assess them.

Unfortunately, both trees were dead standing and needed to be removed due to the potential risk of dead branches and limbs falling.

With the recent dry weather and drought conditions, and as we move into the stormier months, now is a good time to check the trees around your property for any signs of damage, decline or deadwood.

If you notice a tree has died or you're concerned about its condition, it's always best to get it checked before it becomes a potential safety risk.

Unfortunately, this beautiful Copper Beech had developed Ganoderma and was ultimately deemed unsafe.

Over the last year, we had worked on this stunning specimen to keep its height below the required limit due to its location beneath a flight path.

As the tree was protected by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO), it underwent resistograph testing to assess the integrity of the internal wood and determine the extent of decay caused by the Ganoderma fungus. The results showed that the base of the stem was suffering from severe internal decay, meaning the tree could no longer be safely retained.

Our team carefully dismantled the tree using advanced rigging techniques, ensuring no damage was caused to the surrounding car park, fences, or low-level shrubs.

Rather than removing it completely, we left the main stem standing as a habitat for wildlife 🌳🐞

Another successful job completed🌳

We reduced 4 Sycamore trees to prevent further encroachment over the road and provide safe clearance from the phone lines.

We then carried out a height reduction on a row of mixed trees and cut them back from the roadside to improve clearance and maintain a tidy appearance.

If your trees are becoming overgrown, affecting access, or getting too close to utilities, get in touch for professional advice and a free quotation.

A recent Silver Birch fell 🪵

The tree was in poor health and the top half was completely dead. Given its position the customer decided it was best to remove the tree altogether. This allowed us the opportunity to get creative and use an advanced felling cut.

The keyhole (or key notch) felling technique is an advanced way of cutting down a tree with extra control.
It helps keep the base of the tree in place as it falls, stopping it from rolling or shifting and reducing the risk of hitting anything behind it.

This method uses a specially shaped notch that guides the tree as it comes down, making it ideal for tight spaces or when working near buildings.

Scots Pine Removal 🪵

Although this tree was protected by a TPO, permission was granted for removal due to cauliflower fungus and extensive woodpecker damage.

As you can see, the internal wood was badly decayed, leaving the structure compromised.

It was safely and carefully dismantled, removing any risk of it falling in the future.

Great work by the team 👏🏻

This was an oak take down in Farnham a few weeks ago.

The tree had a T.P.O in place, and there was a large Ganoderma bracket at the base. The council required a resistograph test, which the customer had to get done through an independent consultant.
The results showed the inside of the tree was completely rotten, so it was deemed unsafe and the council then gave permission for it to be removed.

We know not everyone likes seeing trees come down — we had a few people shaking their heads as they passed. But there’s always a reason behind it. If you’re ever unsure, feel free to ask and we can have a chat ☺️
