Amey delivers engineering design and operational delivery services for Scotland’s South West Trunk Roads Network on behalf of Transport Scotland. It is our responsibility to maintain the trunk road infrastructure to support the e

conomic growth and development of the area. These services include the design and delivery of major road and bridge maintenance work, as well as inspections to ensure the routes remain safe and well-maintained. We also provide winter maintenance, which includes carrying out salting and snow clearing during the colder months, as well as gully cleaning and the repair of motorway lighting and traffic signals. Our incident response teams are always on hand as the first point of contact for our customers, who may run into problems while travelling on the network. The teams look after our customers’ safety and get people moving again as quickly as possible. The South West contract covers nearly 400 miles of road with our teams responsible for the safe maintenance and repair of over 1,600 structures from Glasgow to Dumfries and through to Ayr and Stranraer.

🐾💙 A Sunday night well spent supporting Maggie’s 💙🐾

Many of you may have spotted the colourful Scottie Dogs dotted around Glasgow recently, raising awareness and funds for Maggie’s. Last night, it was time for five of them to begin the next part of their journey, with a little help from the Amey NMC South West and M8 DBFO teams.

Five members of our Operations teams kindly gave up their Sunday night to help carefully collect and transport the Scotties from Glasgow Central Station, Buchanan Galleries, Braehead and Silverburn. 🚛🐾

The dogs were safely transported to their temporary new home, where they will stay until it is time for them to go under the hammer at the Maggie’s auction on 10 September. 💙

A huge thank you to the team for giving up their own time to support such a fantastic charity. It is another great example of our NMC SW and M8 DBFO teams going beyond their day jobs to support the organisations and communities around us.

We might normally look after Scotland’s roads, but last night we were on Scottie Dog duty! 🐾🚛💙

🌟 Celebrating Youth Skills Day 🌟

Today is Youth Skills Day, a chance to recognise the importance of giving young people opportunities to learn, develop and discover what their future could look like.

Across Amey NMC South West, we are proud to have supported young people through programmes that offer much more than an introduction to our industry.

👷 Through our DYW Glasgow Construction Aware programme, supported by colleagues from Amey NMC South West and M8 DBFO, 56 young people had the opportunity to step inside our workplace and learn about the wide variety of careers available across highways, construction, engineering and infrastructure.

From depot and office tours to bridge building challenges, VR experiences, road safety activities and conversations with our teams, the programme gave young people the chance to see the different skills and people it takes to keep our roads moving safely.

An incredible 90% of participants said they would consider a career within the sector following the programme. 🙌

💙 In Kilbirnie, our partnership with The Salvation Army Employment Plus, Garnock Campus and the George Steven Community Centre has also helped young people build skills through practical experience and employability support.

Over two years, 30 young people took part, with 11 gaining hands on work experience. All participants also received tailored CV support, eLearning opportunities, interview preparation and interview experience.

These programmes are about more than introducing young people to careers.

They are about building confidence, developing skills, opening doors and helping young people recognise the potential they already have. 🌱

We are incredibly proud of every young person who has taken part and of our colleagues and partners who have shared their time, skills and career journeys to support them.

Because investing in the skills of young people today helps build the workforce and communities of tomorrow. 💙

🚒🎨 What a day at Polmadie Fire Station! 🎨🚒

Today, the Amey NMC South West team spent the day supporting the Polmadie Fire Station Open Day,and what a day it was! 💙

Our arts and crafts table was a big hit, with some absolutely amazing artwork created throughout the day. 🎨🖌️ We definitely spotted a few future artists in the making!

But as popular as the arts and crafts were, we have to admit the vehicles stole the show! 🚜🚛🤩

Our Ventrac and gritter, Sir Grits Hoy, had queues from start to finish, with lots of excited visitors climbing aboard, having a closer look and finding out a little more about the vehicles our teams use.

We may even have met a few future Amey employees along the way! 👷‍♀️👷‍♂️💙 And judging by some of the artwork, a few future artists too! 🎨✨

Days like today are a brilliant opportunity to get out into the communities we work in, meet local families and share more about what our teams do every day.

A huge thank you to Polmadie Fire Station for having us along and making us feel so welcome. 🚒👏

It’s fantastic to see partnership working in action, bringing organisations and communities together. 🤝💙

🏅We even discovered a bit of commenwealth history.

📸 Have a look and see what the day looked like!
