Flower of the week: Hydrangea macrophylla

A popular plant and a common sight in gardens around the country.
The colour of the flowers are influenced by the Ph of the soil. (Not annabelle or white varieties)
A soil Ph of about 4.5-5 will produce blue like this example. As the Ph rises closer to 7 the colour shifts through purple hues onto pink.

Flower of the week: Cornflower (centaurea cyanus)
While everything else is starting to go over, these seem to be going from strength to strength.
These vibrant blue blooms are an incredible draw for pollinators and a great addition to any wildflower or cottage garden bed.
They are super easy to grow in any well drained sunny spot. If you deadhead the spent flowers they will continue to produce more for several months.
