RCD's vs Rewireable fuses
While rewireable fuses were revolutionary in their day, modern households use far more appliances putting much higher demands on the electrical system. Upgrading your consumer unit (fuse box) to modern RCD/RCBO protection is the single most effective step you can take to safe guard your home and family.
FUSES PROTECT CABLES - RCDS PROTECT LIVES
An old rewireable fuse has only one job, to stop cables from melting and causing fires during an overload. It does not protect you from an electric shock. If a child sticks something into a socket or you accidentally cut through a cable, the fuse wire can take several seconds to blow, enough time to fatally injure someone, or worse. An RCD constantly measures the electrical balance in your home. If it detects even a tiny drop of current escaping, such as through a person, it will cut the power in under 300 milliseconds. Personally seen it as low as 7 milliseconds which is faster than a blink of the eye. If you still have a rewireable fuse box, I would consider getting it changed to a more up to date technology. It could save lives and your house.
