Scunthorpe Multi-Modal Survey

Phoenix was employed by a large national planning and engineering company to carry out a large Traffic study on a neutral weekday and also over the weekend to collect data pertinent to the
clients planning needs. Data were collected across a spectrum of survey formats. We undertook MCC counts, Queue Studies, Access counts, ATC studies, Level Crossing Observations, Sat flow calculations and manual on-site counts. All data were counted and checked in house by Phoenix
staff and the data supplied to the client to allow them to make the needed modelling and planning decisions.

Summer Term Surveys

The majority of schools and colleges across the UK return after half term next week (with the bonus bank holiday Monday off school too).

With only eight weeks left thereafter until the six week summer holidays and with plenty of events this summer it is important to plan and book your traffic surveys as early as you can.

Across the UK we have the delayed Euro 2020's taking place with multiple games happening across England, Scotland and Wales. Also happening during this time is the Silverstone Grand Prix weekend, Wimbledon as well as many other indoor and outdoor events that are planned to be going on during this period. We recommend to all our colleagues and clients that they should look to getting survey works priced, planned and booked in ASAP.

If you need assistance or have any requirements for work in the coming weeks and months then please do email [email protected] or visit our website to contact us.

We hope everyone is keeping safe, enjoying the refound freedoms and looking forward to a lovely summer.

Summer Term Dates

With schools now breaking up for Easter over this week and with the easing of further restrictions today and the next batch of restrictions planned for easing from 12th April, we should expect to see when the schools and colleges return in late April a move closer to pre-March 2020 traffic levels.

When planning a traffic survey it is nearly always key for schools to be open and the level of traffic monitored to include these journeys.

Across the country different counties, councils, cities and types of schools have varying term times.

The website below is a very useful tool in checking the local area to make sure that schools are open when you are looking to plan a survey.

We always check for clients ourselves before confirming a date but with tight deadlines and a backlog of data collection to be undertaken we thought that it might be helpful to share this with our clients and contacts.

March - COVID Roadmap to Recovery

Phoenix Traffic Surveys would like to wish all our clients and contacts a safe step in the next direction as the governments' next phase of opening up England comes into effect (other regions are also opening up at their own pace). In England from today outdoor sports are allowed such as swimming outdoors (let not all rush to the Lido at once), tennis, golf and team outdoor sports (but no changing rooms and no spectators pitch). Also, meetings outdoors (be it the park or private garden) are allowed for up to 6 people from up to 2 households. We are not all in the same boat when it comes to this pandemic, but we are in the same storm. So we wish everyone a safe and careful first stage of the opening of things and remember - Hands, Face and Space!!!!!

March - Friston

Phoenix was commissioned to undertake Speed and Volume counts in this beautiful village to assist with a planning application. With some of the lowest speeds seen by the staff, we are confident that the client will be able to get the access they need and progress with the project.

February - Witham

Phoenix has been able despite the lockdown effect on traffic to assist with a planning application for a new entrance to the property by taking speed readings and supplying reports showing the mean speeds and 85th percentile speeds along with road user behaviour data to assist in the application of our client for the new access.

January - Kings Cross Station

Despite the Pandemic it is still very important to understand the use of all key forms of transport and to be able to look at current trends against previous data as well as to monitor how people are behaving within key transport links. Therefore Phoenix has been continuing with our long term partner strategic monthly counts at Kings Cross Station across numerous locations to monitor footfall.

Schools re-opening
The excellent news that schools have reopened across the UK bodes very well for the traffic survey industry. Surveys are therefore able to get back to full swing again.

However we do advise clients to check with their local council that they are accepting results from surveys of specific types that are required. Some councils are operating differently to others so this is something perhaps worth checking before calling us.

However if this is something that you feel we can offer advice on then please don't hesitate to contact us as we may already have works in the pipeline in your area so we could help cut through some red tape.

Cold Ash Traffic Study

Phoenix are working with a well respected Transport Planner have been tasked with collecting ATC data at 17 strategic locations throughout the Parish to ascertain traffic flows and speeds at key junctions and areas. As well as this a detail MCC study at key locations will also give the needed data for the Transport planner to be able to make the needed review and recommendations for moving forward with a travel plan for the Parish. This project has seen Phoenix help plan and select the locations and the scope of the works with the council.

Phoenix Traffic Surveys have tried to make the most of the COVID 19 pandemic and worked at looking at how we as a business can improve our works as well as reducing costs and impact on the environment. With this being said we have moved from our old office facilities and converted a large room at our Directors home into a self contained office. As well as this we now have two purpose built and designed units. One is a storage shed for all survey equipment and has the needed space to store all our site equipment. Secondly we have a hand built (by our Director Ben Moore) Workshop made from recycled and sourced materials which is fully stocked with all the needed tools and machinery for working on our kits and field equipment. The new set up separates in the same area the three key requirements our business has and therefore limits the cross activity by different teams and staff as before all was in one large room accessed by one door. We are now able to work on our data needs separately to maintenance works and inventory / loading the vehicles. Each area has its own COVID hygiene station and each is entered and accessed separately.
