Here, we have a pretty little low-maintenance installation we completed last year for a regular commercial maintenance client in Camden; designed to be colourful year round!

We used drought and frost tolerant plants with a biodegradable PLA w**d control membrane, mulch, corten steel edging and buff granite gravel to keep things bright.

Our installation replaced poor lawn that previously required weekly cutting with a low maintenence garden that needs monthly-quarterly maintenence visits (dependent on rubbish volume).

Minimal maintenance, maximum appeal.

“I am more gentle now with small things and their lives. Mice, spiders, insects. I don’t thoughtlessly squash them anymore. If I find a spider in my house now, I move him outside. I don’t step on him because he was unfortunate enough to be seen by me. I have been in his position. I have a new kinship with the small creatures in our world.

I remember a dragonfly on position. He was flying around the trench and a mortar landed very close to us. I found him a few minutes later with his wings burnt off and he was twitching and I thought; ‘The war has gotten to you as well, my friend. I am sorry.’

I feel as the spiders and mice do. In fear of being seen by something above which it’s very difficult to escape from. My last break at home my wife asked me to remove a spiderweb from under one of the tables and looked at me as I had gone insane when I removed the spider safely with my hands and placed him outside on the tree. He is me. And I am him - in a way.”

"Human exceptionalism is at the root of the ecological crisis," Webb told a Science Center audience of more than 100 people recently as part of the Harvard Science Book Talks. "This pervasive mindset gives humans a sense of dominion over the rest of nature, set apart from and entitled to commodify Earth and other species for their own exclusive use."

In the grand story of evolution, the crowning human distinction is our big brain. But our large heads have been slow to recognize a less admirable trait of Homo sapiens—self-centeredness.

With great sadness, the Jane Goodall Institute confirmed this morning the passing of the organization’s founder, Dr. Jane Goodall, age 91 who died peacefully in her sleep while in Los Angeles, CA for her speaking tour in the United States.

Dr. Goodall’s life and work not only made an indelible mark on our understanding of chimpanzees and other species, but also of humankind and the environments we all share. She inspired curiosity, hope and compassion in countless people around the world, and paved the way for many others — particularly young people who gave her hope for the future.

In 1960 Dr. Goodall established the longest running wild chimpanzee study in Gombe National Park, Tanzania which continues to this day. She pioneered and sustained the Jane Goodall Institute’s community-centered conservation initiatives across the chimpanzee range for over four decades. Her legacy includes the creation of JGI’s international environmental and humanitarian youth program Roots & Shoots, which is actively driving change in 75 countries and counting around the world.

The Jane Goodall Institute is incredibly grateful to all our supporters, partners, and friends, especially during this difficult time. To add a personal remembrance of Dr. Goodall and continue her legacy for future generations, please visit JaneGoodall.org/RememberingJane

"There is no formal definition of "early autumn" but experts say signs of the season, like leaves falling or apples being ready to pick, are actually nature becoming stressed by the long hot and dry summer.

And a potentially historic one at that - the Met Office says this summer is on track to be one of the warmest since records began in 1884."

Get in touch for a free quotation on installing drought tolerant plants, microbes for plant heath support and bark mulch to conserve moisture!

Has autumn come sooner than expected to the UK - and does it even matter if it has?

"Biochar is a form of charcoal made from organic matter treated at high heat, which is often used on farming soil as a fertiliser. The process also removes carbon from the atmosphere, making it a useful carbon sink."

Excrement contains nutrients needed for crop growth and a new source of them could cut farming’s huge CO2 output
