☀️This summer, we carried out a secondary drainage project on a football pitch in Exeter.

While the recent hot weather has kept the ground firm, dusty and dry, we know that when the rain does arrive, this pitch can quickly become wet and unplayable.🌧️

To help improve drainage and keep the surface usable, we installed drainage runs at 1-metre centres, while simultaneously filling the drains with gravel. Using our adapted AFT Trenchers WhizzWheel, this process is carried out efficiently, with minimal waste and mess on the pitch surface, before finishing the top few inches with specialist sports sand.

These gravel drains are designed to work alongside the existing primary drainage already installed in the pitch.

A job designed with the wetter months in mind — because good ground conditions aren’t just about dealing with the weather we have today, but preparing for what comes next. 💧⚽️

🚛Our lorry and bulk tipper have been busy working across the South West, transporting grain, animal feed, and some aggregates 🌾

It was also a busy week moving our own plant and equipment up to Exeter, where we're getting underway on a major secondary drainage project.🚜

Its great to see clubs sharing photos of their pitches looking fantastic following our end-of-season renovations! 🌱⚽

It's rewarding to see all the hard work paying off, and these pitches are a real credit to all the hard work the groundsmen put in to getting them looking as amazing as they do.

It's great to be back at Coldharbour Football Ground after a couple of years, and we're delighted to be working with Bodmin Youth FC again! ⚽🌱

Over the last few weeks, we've been carrying out a range of pitch improvement works, including:

✅ Repairs to one pitch with deep ruts using high-quality root zone supplied by Goonvean.

✅ Selective w**d spraying across all three pitches.

✅ Deep tine aeration to depths of approximately 11 inches, helping to relieve compaction and improve root development.

✅ Overseeding of the main pitch, along with overseeding worn areas on the other two pitches to encourage a stronger, healthier sward.

More overseeding being carried out using Origin R41

Despite the less than summery weather this week, the team have been working hard and making great progress!🌦️

We've successfully vertidrained and seeded another 9 pitches, with nearly 1000kg of seed going in the ground, as well as scarifying 2 more and spreading approximately 1500kg of controlled release fertiliser. All helping to improve playing surfaces ready for the months ahead.

Cracking on with the pitch renovations 🌱

Another busy week for the team, travelling across Cornwall and helping local clubs get their pitches on the road to recovery. 🌱⚽🏉

This week we carried out vertidraining and seeding work at Penryn Athletic FC, St Agnes AFC and St Agnes RFC before moving on to St Just AFC, where we verti-drained, seeded and applied Origin multigreen fertiliser.

We also spread fertiliser at Charlestown Youth & Ladies FC and St Blazey Football club, while another verti-drainer was hard at work in Mawnan before heading over to Troon AFC Youth to vertidrain both their main pitch and training pitch.

A big thank you to all the clubs for choosing us. It's always a pleasure to support local sport and help keep pitches performing at their best.

Another productive couple of days on the pitches! 🌱⚽

On Monday, our two Verti-Drainers were hard at work, successfully verti-draining all 9 pitches at Charlestown Youth Football Club between them.

The following day, we returned with our Vredo double-row disc seeder to overseed all 9 pitches. All worn areas were seeded three times before we proceeded to seed the full pitches in two directions. Two of the most heavily used pitches received an additional third direction of seeding, with seed being placed at 35mm spacings.
Seeding at 35mm spacings in multiple directions provides a much more even distribution of seed across the surface. This results in better germination and coverage, helping to create a denser, healthier sward while leaving less room for w**ds to establish and grow.
A big thank you to Charlestown Youth & Ladies FC for choosing us to carry out the work. The club supplied their own TT 4Turf RenovationAgrovista UK Ltda seed, all 1400kgs of it! We look forward to seeing the results develop over the coming weeks.
