Not all ants invading your property are the standard black garden variety. There is a wide category of tropical ants, including Pharaohs and ghost ants, that live strictly indoors and thrive in constantly heated environments like communal flats, bakeries, and hospitals.

These indoor pests are much smaller than common ants and have a unique opaque, creamy colour. Knowing how to identify these specific tropical ants is crucial because they require a completely different treatment approach than outdoor ants.

Spotting them early and understanding their habits can help you stop an internal infestation before it spreads through the heating systems of your building.

Don't Spray!

Stop before you grab bug spray for the ants inside your house. Spraying certain indoor ants is actually the worst thing you can do.

When you use traditional aerosol or handheld sprays on these species, it triggers a
self-preservation response.

The queens will panic, take a portion of the workers, and split the colony into multiple new nests. Instead of solving your pest problem, you have just multiplied your infestation and spread it further throughout your property.

Watch to understand why you need to identify the species first and get professional advice before treating an indoor ant problem.

Found ants in your home? There could be a nest nearby.

Seeing a trail of ants is often only part of the problem. Look out for ants repeatedly emerging from gaps around skirting boards, doors, windows, patios or other areas where they may be nesting.

And while spraying the ants you can see might deal with the immediate activity, it doesn’t necessarily deal with the colony.

The key to effective ant control is identifying where the ants are coming from and treating the nest or colony appropriately.

If ant activity keeps returning, it could be time to get the professionals involved.

Pestforce can help identify the source of the problem and put the right treatment in place.

🐀 How to Help Prevent Rats Around Your Property This Summer

Summer is a wonderful time to enjoy your home and garden, but it can also provide rats with more opportunities to find food, water, shelter and a way in.

The good news is that a few simple steps can make your property far less attractive.

🍽️ Reduce food sources
• Keep wheelie bin lids securely closed.
• Clear away bbq leftovers and food waste.
• Store bird seed, pet food in sealed containers.
• Pick up fallen fruit and avoid leaving pet food outside overnight.

💧 Remove water sources
• Repair leaking outdoor taps and pipework.
• Investigate damaged drains if you suspect they could be providing access.
• Remove standing water where practical.

🏡 Reduce shelter
• Keep sheds, garages and storage areas tidy.
• Cut back dense vegetation against buildings.
• Keep compost bins well maintained and avoid adding cooked food.

🚪 Check for access points
• Inspect for gaps around pipes, doors, vents and damaged brickwork.
• Make sure any proofing work is carried out correctly without blocking essential ventilation.

⚠️ Be cautious with DIY rat control.

Many shop-bought products don’t solve the underlying cause of a rat problem. In some cases, they can delay effective treatment, pose risks to children, pets and wildlife if used incorrectly, or simply result in rats finding another route into the property.

If you’re seeing droppings, gnaw marks, scratching noises, burrows or regular rat sightings, it’s usually best to seek professional advice early before the problem becomes more established.

When choosing a pest controller, look for one who is a member of the British Pest Control Association. BPCA members are independently assessed and work to recognised professional standards, giving you confidence that advice, treatment and proofing are carried out responsibly.

At Pestforce, we’re proud to support best practice through professional training and by helping customers understand why rats are present, how they’re getting in and what practical steps can help reduce the chances of them returning.

Prevention is always the best form of pest control.

⚠️ Don’t Risk Treating a Wasp Nest Yourself ⚠️

Every summer, we attend properties where a simple wasp nest has become a dangerous situation because someone tried to deal with it themselves.

Disturbing an active nest can cause hundreds or even thousands of wasps to defend their colony. Multiple stings can be extremely painful and, for some people, even a single sting can trigger a serious allergic reaction requiring emergency medical treatment.

Many people choose to wait, hoping the problem will simply disappear. While wasp nests naturally die out in autumn, they continue to grow throughout the summer, often reaching several thousand wasps before the colony collapses. If the nest is close to your home, garden, workplace or anywhere people are likely to come into contact with it, early treatment is usually the safest option.

❌ Don’t spray household products.
❌ Don’t block the entrance.
❌ Don’t knock the nest down.
❌ Don’t use fire or boiling water.
❌ Don’t climb ladders to reach high-level nests.

Instead, choose a highly trained pest control professional who is a member of the British Pest Control Association. They have the knowledge, specialist equipment and access to currently approved professional-use insecticides to treat wasp nests safely and effectively.

At Pestforce, we’re committed to protecting your family, your pets and your property with safe, professional wasp nest treatments.

Don’t DIY. Treat early. Stay safe.

🌎 On World Pest Day we released the No Small Matter report, and we've been sharing some of the key findings.

The report found that pest control is still often reactive. Around 64% of pest management activity takes place after a problem has already emerged.

Delayed pest control intervention costs an average of £700 more per case in direct costs. Early action matters. 💸

Where there is no professional intervention at all, businesses and individuals face around £2,000 more in costs compared to where professional help is sought. 😧
