⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Customer said it better than we could!

Another lovely review following a recent WC inlet valve replacement.

It may have been a relatively small repair, but that doesn’t mean the service should be any different. Clear communication, professional workmanship and treating our customers’ homes with respect are important to us on every job.

A big thank you to our customer for taking the time to leave such great feedback, it really is appreciated.

Need something sorted at your home or property? We’re here to help.

⛈️ Heavy rain & thunderstorms are forecast tomorrow.

A Yellow Thunderstorm Warning is in place, with heavy downpours bringing the possibility of localised flooding and disruption.

Before the weather arrives, it’s worth spending a few minutes checking around your property:

🏠 Make sure gutters and downpipes are clear and flowing
💧 Clear visible debris from accessible drains and gullies
🔎 Check for any existing signs of roof leaks or water ingress
🪴 Secure loose items outside and make sure windows and doors are closed
⚠️ And importantly — don’t climb ladders or attempt work at height in poor weather

Sometimes it’s only during a proper downpour that blocked drainage, overflowing gutters or a small roof defect suddenly makes itself known.

If tomorrow’s weather does uncover a problem, 24/7 Trades is here to help.

💧 WATER BACK ON? A FEW THINGS WORTH CHECKING…

Following the recent water supply problems across our local area, you may find that things aren’t quite back to normal straight away when your water returns.

A few things we’d recommend checking:

🔸 Spluttering taps – run your hot and cold taps for a short while until the flow becomes smooth and any trapped air has cleared.

🔸 Cloudy or milky-looking water – this can simply be tiny air bubbles following an interruption to the supply. Let the water settle and run the tap again for a couple of minutes.

🔸 Toilets not filling properly – check that your cisterns are refilling normally. Debris or disturbed sediment can sometimes affect fill valves following work on the mains.

🔸 Low water pressure – pressure may take a little while to stabilise after a major interruption.

🔸 Neighbours have water but you don’t? – if surrounding properties are back to normal but yours still has no supply, contact Thames Water in the first instance as there may be an airlock or another supply issue affecting your property.

And if something inside your property still isn’t behaving as it should once the mains supply has returned, we’re here to help.

We’ve already been attending local customers with a few knock-on issues following the outage.

🔴 Quooker flashing red after the recent water outage?

Over the last couple of days, we’ve attended several local properties where customers have found their Quooker tap flashing red and no longer producing boiling water following the recent interruption to the water supply.

In the cases we’ve seen, the Quooker itself hasn’t been faulty — it has simply needed resetting and flushing through.

How to reset it

Locate the Q-shaped button on top of the Quooker boiling-water tank underneath the sink.

Press the Q button to switch the tank off, wait a couple of minutes, then press it again to switch the tank back on.

Allow around 10–15 minutes for the tank to heat back up.

What do we mean by “flush it through”? 💧

Run the normal cold water and hot water through the tap for around 30 seconds each, or until the water is flowing smoothly with no spluttering, spurting or obvious air coming through.

Once the Quooker tank has reheated, run the boiling-water function briefly as well to make sure the flow is smooth.

If you have a Quooker CUBE, it’s also worth flushing the chilled/filtered-water side of the system following a water-supply interruption. Newer CUBE units with a front display may have a flushing function within the settings menu, which can be used to flush the CUBE through.

On the Quooker systems we’ve attended locally, resetting them, clearing the air and allowing them to reheat has got them back to normal operation.

If the red light continues flashing after a reset, there may be another fault that needs investigating.

Hopefully this saves a few people from thinking their Quooker has suddenly packed up! 👍

💧 WATER SUPPLY COMING BACK ON? A FEW IMPORTANT TIPS 💧

As water gradually returns across the area, there are a few simple steps we recommend to help prevent debris and trapped air from causing further problems:

1️⃣ Purge the incoming supply first

If you have a garden tap connected to the mains, remove any hose, open the tap slowly and allow the water to run until it is clear and flowing steadily. If you don’t have a garden tap, use your mains-fed kitchen cold tap instead.

The initial water may splutter or contain trapped air or sediment disturbed during the repair work.

2️⃣ Remove and clean tap aerators

Aerators are the small mesh filters fitted to the ends of many taps. If possible, remove these before flushing the water through, as they can quickly become blocked by small particles. Give them a clean before refitting them.

3️⃣ If you have a cold-water storage tank

This is usually a large, lidded plastic tank—sometimes an older galvanised metal tank—located in the loft. It normally supplies your hot-water cylinder and may also supply some bathroom cold taps.

Allow the tank to begin refilling and build up a reasonable water level. You can then briefly open one tank-fed cold tap, followed by one hot tap, until you achieve a steady flow. Do this one at a time to help release trapped air.

Don’t leave the taps running, as you may empty the tank again. Close them and allow the tank time to refill fully.

4️⃣ Wait before using appliances

Where possible, wait until the water is running clear and the pressure is reasonably stable before using washing machines, dishwashers, boiling-water taps or filtered-water appliances.

5️⃣ Allow time for pressure to return

Even after repairs are completed, water may not return to every property immediately. The network needs to refill gradually and pressure must rebuild across the area, so some homes may take longer than others.

Once your water is clear, flowing steadily and the pressure has returned, you should be able to use everything as normal.

⚠️ If your water remains brown or orange, has an unusual taste or smell, or Thames Water has issued specific safety instructions, please follow their advice and don’t use it for drinking or cooking until they have confirmed it is safe.

If your neighbours’ water has returned but yours still hasn’t, it may be time to contact Thames Water to confirm there isn’t still a problem with the supply to your property. If they confirm that your supply has been restored but you’re still experiencing little or no flow, give a local plumbing company like ourselves a call. You may have an airlock within your internal pipework that requires professional help to clear.

Please share this with anyone affected. 💧

💧 Local Water Shortage – We’re Here to Help

We know that the current water supply issues are affecting a large number of homes across our local area, and some of our customers are currently without any running water at all.

Thames Water has set up free bottled water stations, but we appreciate that not everyone is able to get out to collect water themselves.

If you’re an existing 24/7 Trades customer, you’re currently without water and you’re unable to get to one of the collection points, please give our office a call on 020 8501 0175.

We’ll do our best to arrange for one of our engineers, while they’re out locally, to drop a bottle of drinking water to your home free of charge to help keep you hydrated. 💧

This is simply a little something we can do to look after the customers who continue to support our local business. 🧡
