Cottage Renovation - Before & After🏠

We were commissioned to sensitively restore this historic cottage, transforming a long-disused and dilapidated building into an elegant, sustainable holiday home within a beautiful estate in North East.

Working closely with our clients and a skilled team of contractors, we carefully considered the building's existing character while introducing thoughtful interventions to bring it back into use.

The result is a tranquil retreat that celebrates the cottage’s heritage, supports the ongoing regeneration of a local Aberdeenshire estate, and gives new life to a building that had stood unused for many years!

July Studio Update - Azuora Architects ✨
6 months since our last studio update already! We are settling in well to our new office, expanding the team and have some 🎨colourful🎨 projects planned...

👋 Team Update
We're delighted to welcome Euan, who has joined the practice as a Part 2 Architectural Assistant. Euan has already been a valuable addition to our team, and we are delighted to soon become one of the few architectural practices in the area with a full team of qualified architects (once Jack and Euan complete their final exams in the next year).

📍 Tobermory, Isle of Mull
Planning permission has been approved for a new Co-op retail development supporting the local community. This one is going to be fun and colourful, complementing the landmark bay of Tobermory.

📍 Lossiemouth
We are working on a new-build house, bought with planning permission already in place, but we are acting as project managers for the construction on site. The modern house sits over 3 levels on a steep site with magnificent views over Lossiemouth beach. This will be a tricky but exciting build in partnership with APC Group.

📍 The Square, Oldmeldrum
We aim to bring the redundant listed hotel building back to life, incorporating new-build homes, serviced accommodation, and business units. The local community have been consulted to ensure they are happy with our proposals to enhance their busy square, respecting the conservation area with quality materials and architectural detailing.

📍 Farmhouse Extensions
It's our season for Farmhouse renovations! With two more we are currently working on in both Dunnydeer and Premnay, please get in touch if you are considering a renovation or extension of your house and we can have a chat.

📍 Peterhead Police Station
We carried out a pre-application enquiry to convert the former 19th-century granite Police Station building into residential use - 9 flats over 3 floors, with partial demolition to provide parking and amenity zones for the residents. Positive feedback received - here at Azuora, we always promote the creative re-use of existing buildings.

📍 EV Charging Points -
We are still busy with many EV projects across the UK. Here are Jack and Euan at the recently completed installation of 8 chargers at Dundee Bus Station.

Our clients wanted to transform and extend their draughty stone-built farmhouse into a warm, energy-efficient family home while retaining its original character - and what a pleasure it is to see the finished result!

The project involved a complete renovation:
🏠upgraded insulation
🏠underfloor heating
🏠an air-source heat pump
🏠a contemporary zinc roof extension
demonstrating how traditional homes can be adapted for modern living without compromising their architectural identity.

The finished result is a comfortable, energy-efficient family home that respects the building's original character while meeting the demands of modern living.

We are delighted to share the news that we’ve opened an office in Oldmeldrum! 💙

Over the past 10 years, we’ve celebrated some big milestones - from starting the business, to hiring our first employee in 2022, growing the team, rebranding the company… and now, having a place of our very own.

Designing the new space has been great fun, but one of the real highlights has to be the lovely new coffee machine! ☕

We’re pleased to share the successful completion of a two-storey extension and internal refurbishment at a working bus depot in Sheffield.🚌

One of the key challenges on this project was delivering the works while the depot remained fully operational. With careful planning, close collaboration with the client and contractor, and a strong focus on health and safety, we kept everything running smoothly throughout.

The result is a high-quality, modern workspace providing enhanced offices alongside improved staff and driver facilities, supporting both functionality and wellbeing.
