Well I am sure that I am going to get an extremely mixed response to this post, however I feel that it needs to be said!
I was watching BBC News earlier which was implying that young people are being “hard done by” by Employers who are not giving them a chance in whichever way that may be construed.
Firstly, in the last two years ALL Employers, small and large have been hit hard by this appalling Government who think that raising NI contributions and the minimum wage will somehow benefit the economy?
This, of course is absolute “crap” as Employers are now nervous about taking on new staff, of any age - which added to the US/Iran crisis means that confidence is incredibly low right now.
Looking at the other end of the equation - young people (and I am not tarring them all with the same brush - do not generally seem to have any appetite for physical/outdoor work, with a few notable exceptions, who are still working with us!
I have encountered:-
1. Those who can’t get out of bed..
2. Those who can’t put down their phone (in spite of being told that it is a big “no no” when working at a Client’s house..
3. Those who tell me that they have some “gardening experience “ then quite obviously haven’t…
4. Those who really don’t want to work but have probably been told by parents that they have to, but really want to earn £50k per annum in front of a laptop/tablet.
We are absolutely stuck in the middle but being told that we must give young people - 16 to 24 years old in particular - a chance -realistically be are unable to do this without help from the Government and some effort on the part of young people who actually want to work!
