A 20p “Bottle Tax” is coming to the UK for all ‘single use’ drinks….
The “Deposit Return Scheme” comes out on 1st October in the UK, meaning a 20p deposit will be added to all single use drinks bottled in plastic, steel and aluminium containers between 150ml and 3 litres.
The deposit is fully refundable you will be able to get the cash back when you return the bottles to designated return points at supermarkets or convenience stores.
However, certain bottles will not be included in the scheme. This includes ones that are not single use or made from high density polyethylene, (the material used to make milk bottles). The scheme also does not include containers used for liquid medicines or flavour enhancers or sweeteners to add to drinks- such as syrups or hot sauce.
