Just another reminder of the dangers of electricity, these had been burning away for some time and customer was very lucky nothing caught fire.
Unsatisfactory connections and not within a suitable enclosure, so water was leaking into the connections through the flat roof and downlights were still working until the point of being completely burnt out!
Also a very very important reminder of updating your consumer unit as an RCBO (residual current breaker with Overcurrent protection) would have picked this overheating up long before it got to this stage π
Changed the 8 downlights and rewired some parts that weren't salvageable in one part of the kitchen and the customer was over the moon so wanted me back to change the other 6 in another part of the kitchen. Consumer unit change in due course as well π
Please be mindful of how important keeping your homes electrical installation up to date is, getting it checked out and not allowing DIY dave in because he's the cheapest quote or doing things yourself because you've watched a couple of youtube videos....ππ«
