What a stunner! The Scottish Blackface ram βMacgregor,β owned by James R. Dempster of Ladyton, was photographed by Charles Reid around 1890.
The Blackface, or Scottish Blackface, is a British sheep breed and the most common in the United Kingdom.
Despite its name, it didnβt originate in Scotland but rather south of the Anglo-Scottish border. Its exact origins remain unclear, but it reached the Scottish Highlands in the late eighteenth century, replacing the earlier Scottish Dun-face or Old Scottish Shortwool, a Northern European short-tailed type likely similar to todayβs Shetland.
