The old mortar ridge was completely worn out, covered in moss and starting to fail — a common issue that leads to leaks and ongoing maintenance.

We stripped it all back and installed a new dry ridge system, giving this roof a much cleaner look and, more importantly, a long-lasting, secure finish 💪

Cosby project – Part 2 (Finished) ✅

Following on from our previous post, here’s the completed roof after a full replacement. We stripped everything back and re-tiled using a mix of existing and new tiles to achieve a clean, consistent finish.

Installed with a dry ridge system, dry verge, and valley system for a low-maintenance, long-lasting finish.

🚨 Spray Foam Warning for Homeowners 🚨

We recently completed a full roof replacement in Cosby after spray foam insulation in the loft caused serious ventilation problems.

Because the foam was applied directly to the underside of the roof, it blocked the roof’s natural airflow, causing condensation to build up. Over time this led to the felt sweating and the roof battens rotting, which eventually caused damage to the roof externally.

Thankfully we removed the foam quickly enough that the rafters were still in good condition, but the battens, felt and tiles had deteriorated so much that the roof needed to be completely replaced.

⚠️ Something to consider before installing spray foam: it can trap moisture, hide roof issues, and in many cases even cause problems when selling or remortgaging your home.

📋 Roof MOT – Why Regular Checks Matter

On a recent Roof MOT we carried out in Leicestershire, we identified several issues caused by previous poor installation and age.

Here’s what we found and corrected:

🔎 Chimney Lead Work

Lead flashing around the chimney had failed, which can quickly lead to internal leaks if left untreated.
We removed the defective lead and installed new lead work correctly, ensuring a long-lasting watertight seal.

🔎 Poorly Installed Dry Verge

The existing dry verge system had been fitted incorrectly, leaving it vulnerable to movement and wind damage.
We removed it and installed a new dry verge system securely and to the proper standard.

🔎 Loose Ridge Tiles & Worn Mortar

The ridge tiles were unstable, and the mortar had significantly deteriorated — a common issue that can become a safety risk.
We replaced the ridges and upgraded the roof with a modern dry ridge system, providing stronger fixing, improved ventilation, and greater durability.
