At FCE Projects, health and safety are paramount. We acknowledge that the nature of construction work, involving heavy machinery, elevated structures, and complex processes, inherently carries significant risks.

According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), construction workers represent only 7% of the global workforce but account for 30% of all workplace fatalities.

At a recent ESG meeting, we put the spotlight on PPE. In the photo, our ESG Director Dr. Tim Whitehill, Health and Safety Director, Simon Holme, Apprentice Digital Technologist, Finlay Morse and new Compliance Engineer, Christian Houghton, are testing glove fit, grip and durability.

Our site teams brought back real-world feedback on gloves, and we carried out a hands-on inspection to check fit, grip, durability and task suitability.

Today, on International Youth Day, we're celebrating the power of young people to create meaningful change, starting in their own communities.

This summer, FCE Projects welcomed three students from a local school in Runcorn for a week-long work experience. They gained hands-on insight into civil engineering and marketing, contributed to live projects, and developed skills that will help shape their futures.

This year’s theme, “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond”, highlights how more than 65% of the UN Sustainable Development Goals are achieved through policies and services at the local and regional level.

"Empowering youth where they live is not just beneficial, it is essential. Young people possess an intimate understanding of their community's needs and are uniquely equipped to design the solutions that resonate." - Mr. Li Junhua, Under-Secretary-General, UN DESA.

🌍 World Environment Day: 🌍

Plastic pollution is not just a consumer issue—it’s a construction industry crisis too.

A recent analysis by the Copper Sustainability Partnership (CuSP) revealed that plastic waste from the UK construction sector increased by 210% every two years between 2004 and 2018.

This is a stark reminder that our industry must do more to reduce, reuse, and rethink how we build.

In 2020, we launched our Zero Carbon Roadmap to ensure we adapt, prepare and respond to a zero-carbon future by innovating and continuously improving our business models.

World Environment Day will spotlight the growing scientific evidence on the impacts of plastic pollution and drive momentum to refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle, and rethink plastics use to build a cleaner and more sustainable future.

🌍 As Earth Month draws to a close, we’re proud to spotlight one of the stories from our 'Stories with Impact' series: "The Frontline of Climate Change."

We sponsored local photographer and climate advocate Sophia Polson on her expedition to the Brazilian Amazon, where she documented the lives of the Kayapo, an indigenous community living on the frontline of the climate crisis.

Through the power of storytelling, Sophia's work helps raise global awareness of deforestation, biodiversity loss, and the urgent need for climate action.

At FCE Projects, we believe in supporting voices that inspire change and showing how local actions can contribute to global solutions.

⚡️ OUR POWER, OUR PLANET 🌍

This , we reaffirm our commitment to protecting the environment, improving lives, and supporting the communities we serve.

Earth Day’s 2025 theme, “OUR POWER, OUR PLANET”, is a call for everyone to unite around renewable energy so we can triple clean electricity by 2030

As we continue to collaborate with industry leaders, we are proud to work on projects that contribute to the development of sustainable infrastructure for a greener, more resilient future.

At FCE Projects, our vision is for zero carbon to become business as usual by 2030. We aim to do this by innovating and continuously improving our business model across our operations, transport provisions and supply chains.

From launching our zero-carbon strategy in 2020 and signing up to the UN Global Compact, we’re taking real steps towards a greener tomorrow.

“We all have a part to play in tackling the climate emergency and I’m proud we’re doing our bit. My advice to fellow business leaders would be to develop their own road map to becoming greener.” - Tim Whitehill, ESG Director.

🟥🎓 SDG Goal of the Month: Quality Education 🎓🟥

As February comes to a close, FCE Projects are shining the spotlight on the Sustainable Development Goal of the month – Quality Education, highlighting the importance of inclusive and equitable learning opportunities for all.

Our ESG Director, Tim Whitehill, recently visited a local school, Sandymoor Ormiston Academy, Runcorn, to inspire the next generation about careers in construction, breaking the “muddy boots” stereotype and showcasing the diverse opportunities in the industry.

The session was interactive, engaging, and full of laughs, with Tim sharing his own journey on how he fell into construction along with a true or false game on construction job titles.

We’re also excited to welcome a Sandymoor student for work experience this summer, continuing our commitment to empowering young talent.

“Education is a fundamental human right, central to the dignity and empowerment of individuals, to driving sustainable development, and to building peace.” – António Guterres, UN Secretary-General
