Better parking was required at this house as it's right opposite a primary school, so the front lawn & wall were taken out & a new much larger driveway was constructed.
The paving was a grey sandstone supplied once more by CED Stone in Hooton & we used resin grouting, which is available in three colours. We have found this to perform much better than traditional mortar based pointing ever did.
Part of the remit for the job was to remove a redundant garage at the rear of the property, this proved to be a bit of an undertaking as nobody was aware that hidden beneath the roofing felt & plastered ceiling was 7 1/2 tonnes of steel re-enforced concrete, however a good amount of this was used to form the base for the driveway, so once all the brick & rubble was removed by grab wagon, we were left with a defecit to make up & the pulverised concrete made a great base on top of which 8 tonnes of crushed limestone was levelled & tamped down by machine, plenty strong enough to take the weight of 2 family cars & more!
A new wall was built using the closest brick match available & this was topped off with matching paving stones, when it came to the pier cap, nothing is available in the matching stone the size required, so rather than cut down a flag stone & have 2 ugly cut sides, we made our own cap stone & used construction adhesive to bond it onto a cament core that had been made a day earlier.
Again resinoid pointing was used to match the paving & finish the whole job off cohesively.
