Prettier in pink! 🌸

Most hawthorns have a beautiful scented white blossom this time of year. Sometimes, though, you get a deep pink specimen! (And the jury’s out as to why…)

Throwback to a greener (and cooler!) summer 2021 at . Though this sea holly is a sun bather…

I often include like planting the Eryngium planum (flat sea holly) in planting schemes for its purple-green contrast, autumn interest and pollinator food (of course!).

It also loves baking in the sun, so is perfect for southern gardens in times of drought.

And a sneak peak of my (garden) companion šŸ‘Ø 🪓

Vibrant prairie vs English meadow at the Horniman today.

The prairie was planted a few years ago in 15cm of pea shingle, and hasn’t been watered since. It’s a great example of adapting to the London climate in a way that’s easy to the eyes, great for the bees, and sustainable use of water resource.

(You can also catch me in the background watering in some new gap-filling planting!)

First visit back to Stave Hill Ecology Park since I finished my training there. I couldn’t resist a photo of the three cornered leek - beautiful and loved by pollinators and human foragers, but is invasive and its cultivation is banned by law! The green alkanet in the next photo is also not much-liked by gardeners, but it too brings pollinator benefits.
