🚪 That space under the stairs is probably doing absolutely nothing.

And neither is that awkward corner next to the kitchen.

Renovations are a great opportunity to find the spaces you're currently wasting and turn them into useful storage, a home office, shelving or something completely bespoke.

You don't always need to build bigger.

Sometimes you just need to build smarter.

🔇 Love your open-plan home… until everyone starts talking at once?

Open-plan living looks great, but it can become noisy and difficult to divide when you need a bit of peace.

Internal steel doors and glazed screens can create separation without making the room feel closed off.

Keep the light. Keep the connection. Lose some of the noise.

🔨 “We didn’t expect that.”

Probably one of the most common phrases during a renovation.

Old wiring. Uneven floors. Hidden pipework. Previous work that wasn’t quite done properly.

You can’t always know what’s behind a wall until you open it up.

What matters is having an experienced team that can identify the problem, explain the options and find a practical way forward.

Because renovation rarely goes 100% to plan. Good planning means being ready when it doesn’t.

🏠 Got a loft conversion but still don’t use the room?

It might not be the space that's the problem.

Too little storage. Poor lighting. An awkward staircase. Nowhere to put a desk. A room that gets unbearably hot in summer.

A loft conversion needs to work as a room, not just tick the box for “extra space”.

Good planning considers how you'll actually live in it.

🍳 The kitchen isn’t small. The layout is.

You can have plenty of square footage and still feel like there’s nowhere to work.

The fridge is too far away. The island blocks the walkway. Two people can’t cook at the same time.

Before choosing colours and worktops, fix the layout.

A good kitchen renovation should make everyday tasks easier, not just make the room look better.

📦 You renovated the house. So why is there STILL nowhere to put anything?

New kitchen. New bathroom. New loft. Still surrounded by stuff.

Storage is often an afterthought, but it can completely change how a renovation works day to day.

Built-in wardrobes, under-stairs storage, clever kitchen cabinetry and bespoke solutions can make use of the spaces you normally ignore.

Sometimes you don't need more space.

You just need to use it better.

☀️ Built an extension… and somehow made the house darker?

It happens.

A badly positioned extension can block natural light from the rooms behind it, leaving your original space feeling gloomy.

The solution isn't always more lighting. Glazed roofs, carefully positioned windows, roof lanterns and larger openings can make a huge difference.

Good extension design is about thinking beyond the new room.

🛁 Your Bathroom Doesn't Have to Feel Like a Hotel Bathroom

White tiles, chrome fittings and a completely clinical look are no longer the only options.

We're seeing more homeowners create bathrooms that feel warm, comfortable and personal — with colour, texture, interesting patterns and even furniture-like details.

The goal? A bathroom that's practical enough for everyday life but relaxing enough that you actually want to spend time there.

Would you go bold with your next bathroom renovation?

🌧️ Rain Is Great… Until Your House Can't Handle It.

With heavier downpours becoming a bigger concern, it's worth looking at the parts of your home that usually get ignored.

Blocked or poorly planned drainage.
Old exterior finishes.
Roof and guttering issues.
Garden areas where water simply has nowhere to go.

A renovation is a good opportunity to think beyond the kitchen and bathroom and make your property more resilient too.

At Arek Design & Build, we work on extensions, refurbishments, landscaping and complete property projects — giving homeowners the opportunity to tackle several problems at once.

Don't wait for the first serious downpour to discover where the weaknesses are. 🌧️🏡
