We recently had the honour of working with artist Ruth Ewan on her project 'A Feminist Jukebox of People Trying to Change the World’. A project commissioned by We Make Museums for Glasgow Women’s Library, part of Glasgow International Festival of Contemporary Art, 2026. "At the heart of Ruth Ewan's installation, part of We Make Museums: Sustaining and changing worlds, is a restored 1984 vinyl jukebox, filled with 160 songs spanning centuries of women's voices, stories, resistance and joy. From traditional folk songs and pioneering jazz to riot grrrl, synth-pop, heavy metal and contemporary feminist anthems, each track has been carefully selected from Glasgow Women's Library's collections and the artist's own archive.

Originally designed for pubs and entertainment venues, this jukebox has been reclaimed and reimagined as a space for listening, remembering and celebrating. The playlist explores themes including women's health, motherhood, sexuality, identity, discrimination, collective action and empowerment.

Alongside the jukebox, you'll find a selection of favourite LPs from the GWL archive, including releases from trailblazing labels such as Rosetta Records and Olivia Records, as well as objects connected to feminist music activism, from Greenham Common songbooks to riot grrrl zines.

Exhibition continues until 26th September 2026

EDVARD GRAHAM LEWIS - Blow Pipe Toot [HL40]

Edvard Graham Lewis rose to prominence as bassist/lyricist/vocalist with British post punk pioneers Wire. However, he has also forged a parallel career as a solo artist. Operating initially under the name He Said, then HALO, and currently under his own name, he has crafted a glossy, dramatic and often experimental electronic pop.

Lewis is also an arch collaborator, having worked with such sonic mavericks as Thighpaulsandra, Valentina Magaletti, Ted Milton, Klara Lewis, Mike Watt, Mark Spybey and ex-Wire guitarist Bruce Gilbert. Meanwhile, 2025 saw the release of Lewis’s most recent solo album, the expansive ‘Alreet?’, and the reviews were fulsome in their praise.

June 2026 marks a full 5 years since our very first release on Heaven’s Lathe, and we couldn’t be more proud of the fact our 40th release is an exclusive new single from one of the music world’s true innovators.

Side A: Blow Pipe Toot: a brooding slow burn of a song. It begins with a woman’s voice chanting over a dark pulsing synth. This is actually Lewis’s voice pitched up, yet so soulful is it, that when Lewis’s dark baritone come in, it feels like a strange self-duet.

Side B: Approaching Rain: a tightly coiled composition, combining an uplifting melody, a mysterious vocal and increasingly complex layers of rhythm and syncopation.

Both pieces were recorded in 2013, during the ‘All Under’ sessions, when Lewis was composing and recording soundtracks for works by artist/film maker Gunilla Leander. They never found a home at the time, but now they can finally see the light of day.

ROVR • Friday night we celebrated Sun Ra day at ROVR Soho opening an exhibition of art inspired by his music and the impact he made before beaming back to Saturn.

We had an insightful in-conversation and Ra-miniscences between Paul Smith (Blast First) and Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth, a Dj set from Peter Dennett (Art Yard) and rare limited editions

Thank you to everyone who came together over groundbreaking astral sounds and a shared love of the cosmos

The exhibition continues to be open to those who don’t make it

FedEx made this an eventful first order … order placed 7th May. FedEx had the parcel on the 14th with delivery due on the 18th. 18th comes and nothing … frantic emails and calls to FedEx while the stress levels at BF!HQ go up and up and up. FedEx delivers at 3pm Thu 21st. We jump in a car and do the 10 hour round trip from the Cambrian Mountain to Soho. Deliver the order at 7:30 pm and arrive home at 2am 😆

Madness? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely.

The vast majority of pressing plants require a minimum of 100 units. We are working with a boutique plant that starts with runs of 50. This is significant for labels and artists who want the quality of pressed vinyl without committing to quantities that don't suit their release.

The plant is run by My Shank — a French company operating at the highest level within the disc mastering and lathe-cutting industry. Their styli are used by Bernie Grundman. Their HeLiX23 cutter head is trusted by SST in Berlin. In 2024 we became the sole UK distributor of My Shank products, and our existing relationship with them gives us unique access to this new service that no else in the UK has.

We act as the broker. This means that the full process — from the master you supply to the record you receive — is managed by people who have been mastering audio and cutting vinyl for over two decades. We know what a pressing plant needs. We know what a good record sounds like. We act as your advocate inside the plant — ensuring your record receives the attention it deserves.

We can get your 50 x 12” white labels to you with a lead time as short as 10 working days.
