Congratulations to South Wales Designing Out Crime Officers (DOCOs) and the Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Llyn y Forwyn in Ferndale, South Wales, for winning the ATLAS Award for best educational development at the Secured by Design national awards 🎉

Challenges included the typography of the site as the school sits in a steep valley, along with designing safe pedestrian and cycle routes, while maintaining clear vehicles access to help manage traffic. The result is an outstanding Welsh-medium school, with bright modern classrooms, games areas, sports pitches, cycle storage and a dedicated car park for parents - all designed with crime prevention from the start.

Collaboration and good communication were key to the project's success, with partners including Century Schools Team Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Project Manager's , Wynne Construction and Arcadis Architects South Wales Police Rhondda Cynon Taf, Merthyr Tydfil and Bridgend Heddlu De Cymru
