Yesterday Construction Plant-hire Association CEO Steve Mulholland joined Sam Francis and Dawn Neesom on GB News Breakfast, and Peter Cardwell on TalkTVUK, to discuss this week's train derailments in Lewes, East Sussex and Wickford, Essex.

The thoughts of everyone at the CPA and Rail Plant Association (RPA) are with those affected by these incidents, and it’s important to recognise Network Rail's response in what have been difficult circumstances.

Two derailments in two days is a stark reminder of the challenges facing our rail network.

Rail Plant Association members are key players in the UK's railway supply chain, and they have long been warning against the "managed asset decline" of our rail infrastructure. They have been clear: we need improved track upgrades and maintenance to ensure our network can run smoothly and securely, even in challenging conditions.

That’s why we want to work with the Government, including HM Treasury, and Network Rail to deliver much-needed extra investment in our rail infrastructure, using best-in-class domestic steel, timber and ballast, to ensure passengers can travel with confidence on a network that is safe, reliable and fit for the future.
