I have had quite a few inquiries about people interested in learning about using tape in the recording and mixing process .

I don’t claim to be an expert in it, I’m all self-taught.
Though I am thinking about doing a day of talking and showing how I use the tape machines and how and what I find them useful for.

I’m just gaging interest at the moment. I was thinking about doing it for free as an offering to the audio community, people can make a donation if they want. Which might go towards paying for a tech to come and explain how to calibrate one of the machines correctly. Though no one will be turned away due to funds (only how many people we can fit in the control room !).

The day will probably involve some basic recording and mixing with tape. Also, some collaborative experimentation, all levels of experience are welcome. If you have more experience with tape than me, maybe you can help talk about it.

Anyway, if you are interested, drop me a message and I can gauge interest and think about when to put a potential date in.

Due to the popularity of this service, I’m putting the price up slightly for singles — £60 for a regular analogue master and £70 for tape, now with two free revisions included. Albums and EPs stay at the same great prices.

When I started out as a mixing engineer, I used to send my tracks to the big mastering houses. Back then there was a real difference. Over the years that gap closed — to the point where artists often prefer my masters. Most of those houses still charge £150 or more, with no revisions included. That never felt right with me, so I offer something different: a proper analogue master, at a fair price, with two free revisions.
