What an incredible weekend for community spirit! 🎉 Community Energy Newham (CEN) was thrilled to be part of the Spring All 4 Free Giveaway event held last Saturday, April 25th, at River Church, Canning Town.
At CEN, we believe in the power of local communities and are deeply rooted in the areas we serve. This event perfectly showcased how every community plays a vital role in fostering development by sharing thoughts and ideas.
A special shout-out to our dedicated CEN volunteer, Selene, who was instrumental in organizing the event as part of SMP and Peach_e16. Her efforts, along with everyone involved, made it a truly memorable day filled with free baby items, clothes, books, games, and much more, all aimed at strengthening our neighborhood bonds.
It’s inspiring to see our community growing and expanding with every step we take.

Repowering London is thrilled to announce the upcoming launch of the Community Energy Newham (CEN) share offer. Community Energy Newham is giving local residents and supporters a new opportunity to invest in affordable, renewable energy in the borough. Following the successful 2025 share offer that brought solar installations on three Newham libraries into public ownership, this latest offer invites the community to play a direct role in building a cleaner, fairer local energy future.

Shares are available from £50 for Newham residents and £100 standard minimum investment. The offer also includes a target return of 3%.

By pledging support through the share offer, members will have a voice in shaping a collaborative community organisation that is working to cut carbon emissions, lower energy costs, build local skills, and widen participation in the transition to a low-carbon future.

If you want to take local action on climate change while helping raise money for local projects, now is the time to get involved.

Community Energy Newham was delighted to be part of this event, bringing people together around a shared goal of a more sustainable Newham. Our team was on the ground raising awareness about cleaner, more affordable energy for local residents and businesses.

It was great meeting Maria from Moving Beyond and Selene from SMP, and connecting with so many participants. We shared flyers, energy advice, and made some valuable new contacts.

Community Energy Newham had a fantastic morning at Central Park Primary School, Newham with the Community Energy Newham coffee morning last week.

It was a great opportunity to share energy-saving tips and workshops with parents, along with freebies to help families reduce their home energy bills. The session was interactive, engaging, and it was wonderful to receive such positive feedback from participants.

The badge-making workshop with the children was especially inspiring. Each child shared one idea for saving energy in everyday life, then created their own customised badge to take home. It was amazing to see their creativity and enthusiasm.

A big thank you to the school team for hosting this event and supporting such an enjoyable and meaningful session.

We were delighted to support the launch of the Newham Youth Training Programme on the 14th January, welcoming motivated young people from across the borough who are passionate about sustainability and keen to move their careers forward.

Participants are guaranteed two days of work experience and 40 hours of paid learning each week, helping them build confidence, develop ideas, and aim high. Involving young people in our work has been a priority from the start, and we’re excited to offer opportunities to shadow staff and help shape our future.

Following strong sessions in January, including workshops on climate action and circular economies, the Newham team will return on February 14th for a session focused on community engagement and putting local voices at the centre of sustainability work.

Mayor Visits Roman Road Primary School’s New Solar Installation ☀️
We were delighted to welcome Rukhsana Fiaz, Mayor of London Borough of Newham, to Roman Road Primary School following the installation of new solar panels at the school 2025.
Across Newham, our solar sites have now generated 337,321 kWh, equivalent to the annual electricity use of over 120 UK households, or 69,842 kg of CO₂ saved. A powerful example of what local action can achieve.
The visit included a rooftop tour with the Newham Climate Action Team, where Community Energy Newham showcased the project and its impact for both the school and the wider community.
The new solar installation will help reduce energy bills, generate clean electricity on site, and cut carbon emissions, keeping energy savings local while supporting schools to play an active role in tackling climate change. The Mayor praised the work delivered and shared her strong interest in Sustainable Newham and the borough’s growing portfolio of community-led green projects.

Great to spend time at Roman Road Primary School on 12 February 2026, where the Community Energy team joined a Parents Coffee Morning and delivered a Year 2 workshop.
It was a really productive event with local families, and the Warmer Homes: energy saving tips and hacks session sparked lots of interest and great conversations. We loved seeing how engaged everyone was and how keen people were to learn practical ways to save energy at home.
A huge thank you to the school team for organising such a welcoming and well-run event. We hope sessions like this help create a positive impact towards a greener energy future, while also supporting local families to reduce their energy costs.
Looking forward to more community moments like this. For more details visit our website. https://www.repowering.org.uk/newham/

Big milestone for community energy in Newham!

Newham communities are shaping the future of local heat!

Local residents in Newham have completed a powerful series of workshops as part of the Repowered Community project, coming together to prioritise locations for a new Community Heat Network. After collective discussion and ranking potential sites, Little Ilford Estate has been selected for the next stage of detailed design, a major step toward the borough’s first community-focused, low-carbon heat network.

Led by Repowering London and delivered with partners including London South Bank University, Dark Matter Labs, Glasgow Community Energy, Community Energy Newham, and London Borough of Newham, the project puts residents at the heart of decision-making with priorities like affordability, social impact, transparency, and community benefit guiding every step.

With design work now underway and continued engagement ahead, this is a bold example of what community-led climate action can achieve. People-powered heat is coming to Newham — and this is just the beginning!
