The LRWA consists of the leading manufacturers of liquid applied waterproofing, approved contractors

he LRWA was originally formed as the BRCMA (Bituminous Roof Coating Manufacturers Association), in the 1970’s in order to promote good practice in the industry. In the early 90’s it became apparent that growth in non-bituminous products was active and the association reinvented itself as ELRA (European Liquid Roofing Association) incorporating all liquid roofing systems. Additionally the organisat

ion was being recognised as an industry voice and thus became involved with the drafting of European standards. In 2005 a second reinvention recognising the wider markets that the liquid waterproofing was being used in, resulted in the formation of ELWA (European Liquid Waterproofing Assocation)

In 2010 the association recognised the need for an industry voice for the fastest growing sector of the roofing market in the UK and refocused once again to include Roofing. The association re-launched to become the Liquid Roofing and Waterproofing Association.

🎓 An industry coming together for the next generation.

We’re delighted to see the LRWA Specialist Applied-Skills Programme (SAP) featured across two pages in the latest edition of Roofing Today Magazine .

The article explores how the programme is helping create a clear pathway into liquid roofing, combining practical training, industry expertise and on-site experience to equip new entrants with the skills they need to build long-term careers in our sector.

But this is also a story about industry collaboration.

From the manufacturers, suppliers and partners who contributed equipment to our new LRWA Trade Toolkit, to the trainers, employers and specialists giving their time and expertise, the programme demonstrates what can be achieved when our industry invests collectively in its future.

👏 Congratulations to the latest cohort completing their classroom phase, and a special mention to recent SAP graduate Kyle Broughton, whose experience features in the article.

Behind the scenes, LRWA's Technical Committee has been working to represent members on issues that matter. Following recent public comment periods, Technical Committee members took part in dedicated meetings to shape formal responses to two significant documents:

* Review of Approved Document B: Fire safety guidance
* BS 8670-2 Built environment. Core criteria for construction product competence. Code of Practice

This reflects the ongoing commitment of our Technical Committee to ensure the liquid roofing and waterproofing sector is properly represented in industry consultations.

👏 Celebrating the next generation of roofing talent! 👏

Our CEO, Sarah Spink, was delighted to be invited to join the judging panel for the BMI Apprentice of the Year competition.

The standard on display was exceptional, with every finalist demonstrating outstanding skill, craftsmanship and professionalism. It certainly wasn’t an easy decision for the judges!

It was fantastic to spend time surrounded by such talented apprentices, all of whom represent a bright future for the industry.

A huge congratulations once again to every finalist for your hard work, dedication and the quality of your work. You should all be incredibly proud of your achievements. 👏
