“My grandfather would probably say I’m the worst farmer he has ever seen.” 🧑‍🌾👇

When Gonzalo and his brother Gabi took over their family farm, El Carmen, they decided to listen to their hearts and switch to organic farming. For their grandfather’s generation, a clean, weed-free field was the gold standard, achieved through herbicides. Today, their weeds are growing taller than them! 🌿👀

It might look a little chaotic, but to them, it’s a beautiful sign of life. These wild plants are living proof of how incredibly healthy and rich their soil has becomwe. We think Grandpa would secretly be pretty proud of that. 🌍✨

🍎Supermarkets waste a staggering 22% of food before it even reaches the shelves, simply because it doesn’t meet “perfect” cosmetic standards. A small scratch, a quirky shape, or a tiny skin mark, and it’s rejected.
🌱At CrowdFarming, we think differently. Our direct-to-consumer model drops that waste down to just 3%. Why? Because we focus on real quality, not surface-level perfection. We only leave out fruit that won’t survive the journey. (And we don’t actually waste it, we turn it into jam or juices!)
Before we worry about producing more food to feed the world, maybe we need to change the standards that force us to waste what we already have. 🌍📦

When was the last time you were actually excited to go grocery shopping at the supermarket? 🛒✨

Probably not anytime recently. For most of us, it’s just another chore to tick off the to-do list. But it doesn’t have to be that way - something we were beautifully reminded of during our recent visit to neighbourhood market host Clara in Köln Südstadt. 🚲

In fact, the most common feedback we received was: communities are incredibly important. That feeling of moving things forward together, of belonging to something meaningful, and actively supporting your own region is unmatched.

Our neighbourhood markets act as this direct link between farmers and consumers, prioritizing transparency and the simple truth of how food reaches your table.

How your local market works:

🍓 Find your spot: Select the pickup point nearest to your home.
☀️ Order ahead: Place your order online in advance from the comfort of your couch.
🥒 Weekly pickup: Grab your fresh produce once a week at your designated neighbourhood point.

The big impact: This grouped logistics model ensures that farmers only harvest and deliver what has already been ordered. This completely avoids the massive food waste so common in traditional supermarket stashing.
It’s far more than just a grocery run - it’s a space to meet the passionate people behind your food and bring real life back to your neighbourhood.

Honestly, isn’t that much better than walking down a supermarket aisle? 😉

Take a look at what soil sampling looks like in our fields 👀

Our agronomists are visiting our regenerative farmers to check the colour of the soil, how compact it is, how much biodiversity is in it, and much more. The healthier the soil, the healthier the plant, the healthier the fruit !

🥚That little code stamped on your egg can actually tell you a lot if you know how to read it.
In the EU, every egg carries a production system number: 0 for organic, 1 for free-range, 2 for barn-raised, 3 for caged. It’s one of the few moments in our food system where full traceability is actually mandatory and visible to anyone who looks.
Campaigns like End the Cage Age have pushed for stronger animal welfare standards across Europe, and real legislative progress has followed. But consumer behaviour is part of that pressure too. Every time you choose a 0 or a 1, you’re casting a vote for the farming practices you want to see normalised, and against the ones you don’t.

The food system is complex. But some of its codes are surprisingly readable. Why not start with the one on your egg?

🚨Pollinators are disappearing, but your garden, balcony, or windowsill can be part of the solution.
🐝Europe has around 2,000 wild bee species, and most of them don’t live in hives. They nest in bare soil, hollow stems, and crumbling walls. The things we’ve quietly tidied away.
📋8 evidence-based tips to make your outdoor space work harder for wild bees, from what to plant in February, to why you should stop cutting back in autumn.

This spring, we are welcoming new farmers into our regenerative programme, and is one of them!

During our recent visit, we took soil samples to establish a baseline for the farm’s biodiversity. Johannes first decided to cultivate quinoa after learning it was a gluten-free alternative for a friend with celiac disease. What began as a personal project to provide a single year’s supply has evolved into a mission to grow crops in Germany that are typically imported from overseas.

Located in the fertile Wetterau region, an area enriched by ancient volcanic minerals, the farm is uniquely suited for quinoa. As a resilient plant, it thrives here on rainwater alone, requiring no artificial irrigation.

While the crop’s sensitivity to weeds currently necessitates mechanical intervention, our goal is to support Johannes in his transition toward practices that restore the topsoil as a living ecosystem.

Tracking this restoration helps us understand how to build soil resilience while providing regional staples that reduce the need for long-distance transport.
