🦌🌾 ANOTHER STEP FORWARD FOR PERISH-A-PEST

You may have recently seen our announcement that a new team member will shortly be joining Perish-A-Pest for training, helping us increase capacity across our core pest management services.

That’s all progressing exactly as planned – and we’re already looking towards the next stage of our expansion.

Continued growth within our agricultural, rural and deer management work means we’re now looking to develop additional specialist capacity specifically for this side of the business.

We’re therefore inviting expressions of interest from experienced individuals who may be suitable to work alongside Perish-A-Pest on future rural and deer management projects.

This is completely separate from our recently announced trainee position.

At this stage, this is not an advertised employed vacancy or a guarantee of work. We’re establishing contact with a carefully selected group of experienced people whom we may be able to call upon as our rural workload continues to develop.

🦌 DEER MANAGEMENT – NOT SIMPLY DEER STALKING

This distinction is extremely important to us.

Our approach starts with understanding and managing deer populations responsibly, rather than simply focusing on individual animals.

That can involve monitoring populations, assessing their condition and available food resources, identifying crop or habitat pressures, working with landowners, recognising disease or injury and considering the wider welfare and long-term sustainability of the population.

Where active intervention becomes necessary, it must always be justified, lawful, humane, proportionate, safe and discreet, with animal welfare remaining central to the decision-making process.

Our objective is responsible management that considers the deer, the environment and the needs of the landowner together.

The same philosophy runs throughout our agricultural pest management work:

Effective control. Responsible management. Professional standards.

🌾 WHO ARE WE INTERESTED IN?

We’re particularly interested in hearing from people with:

* DSC qualifications, or a genuine commitment to working towards the appropriate qualification
* Practical deer and wildlife management experience
* Agricultural and rural pest management experience
* Appropriate certificates, permissions and insurance for any activities undertaken
* Excellent fieldcraft and safety standards
* A strong understanding of wildlife legislation and animal welfare
* Experience working professionally around farms, estates, livestock and landowners
* Reliability, discretion and sound judgement
* A willingness to operate within Perish-A-Pest procedures, risk assessments and client requirements

We’re not looking for someone whose only interest is recreational stalking.

We’re interested in people who understand that professional deer management carries responsibility – and who are prepared to put welfare, safety, land management and professionalism ahead of everything else.

Interested in working alongside us?

For now, simply message Perish-A-Pest privately with a brief outline of:

Your experience • Relevant qualifications • Deer/agricultural background • Area covered

Please don’t send fi****ms certificates, identification documents or other sensitive personal documentation at this initial stage.

Expressions of interest will be reviewed, and suitable individuals may be contacted privately where their experience matches our future requirements.

This post is an expression of interest only. It is not an offer of employment, appointment or guarantee of future work.

One expansion already underway.

Now we’re preparing for the next. 🦌🌾

🚜🐀 YOU MIGHT NOT BE THE ONLY ONE FEEDING YOUR LIVESTOCK…

Farms provide almost everything a rodent population needs: food, water, shelter and somewhere relatively undisturbed to live.

And with feed prices where they are, the last thing any farmer wants is rats and mice helping themselves to it.

But the cost isn’t limited to what they eat.

Rodents can contaminate significantly more feed than they consume through urine, droppings and hair. They can damage sacks, insulation, pipework and building materials, and their constant gnawing can cause expensive damage to electrical cables and machinery.

Successful agricultural rodent control therefore isn’t simply a case of “put some bait down.”

A proper programme looks at the whole environment:

🔎 Where are they living?
🌾 What food is available?
💧 Where are they getting water?
🐀 Where are the established runs and burrows?
🏚️ What harbourage is available?
🚪 How are they moving between buildings?
📈 Where is activity increasing or decreasing?

At Perish-A-Pest, we combine professional treatment with monitoring, environmental management and practical recommendations to tackle both the infestation and the conditions supporting it.

We work with:

🚜 Farms
🐄 Livestock premises
🐴 Stables & equine yards
🌾 Feed stores & silos
🏡 Smallholdings
🏭 Agricultural premises
🥩 Food production sites

Whether you’ve already got a significant rodent problem or want to discuss an ongoing pest-management programme, give us a call.

Don’t feed the pests.

🏢 PEST CONTROL ISN’T JUST ABOUT REMOVING PESTS — IT’S ABOUT PROTECTING YOUR BUSINESS.

For restaurants, cafés, takeaways, pubs, hotels and other food businesses, a pest problem can quickly become much more than an inconvenience.

Contaminated stock, damaged packaging, complaints from customers and concerns during an Environmental Health inspection can all have serious consequences for a business and its reputation.

That’s why professional commercial pest management should be about much more than simply putting down a few bait boxes.

At Perish-A-Pest Pest Control, our approach is built around:

🔎 INSPECT — identifying activity, entry points, harbourage and contributing factors.

📊 MONITOR — discreet monitoring to understand activity and identify changes.

🛡️ TREAT — targeted, responsible treatment appropriate to the pest and environment.

📋 RECORD — professional reporting and records to provide a clear history of pest activity and actions taken.

🏠 PREVENT — practical recommendations to address the reasons pests are getting in and reduce the risk of recurrence.

We provide pest management for:

🍽️ Restaurants & cafés
🍕 Takeaways
🍺 Pubs & bars
🏨 Hotels & B&Bs
🏭 Food production premises
🛒 Shops & retail premises
🏢 Offices & other commercial properties

Whether you need help with an existing problem or you’re looking for reliable ongoing pest management, we’d be happy to discuss your requirements.

👀 HEARD SOMETHING GO BUMP IN THE NIGHT?

You’re lying in bed, everything’s quiet and then…

scratch… scratch… rustle…

“It’s probably just the house.” 😬

Maybe.

But there are a few noises and signs around a property that are worth investigating.

🐀 Scratching in the loft
Rats and mice can make surprisingly loud noises when everything else is quiet, particularly when moving through loft insulation and voids.

🐭 Movement inside walls
Rodents can travel through wall cavities, service voids and other hidden areas of a building.

🏠 Rustling beneath the floor
Suspended floors and subfloor voids can provide rodents with concealed routes through a property.

🐝 Buzzing around the roof or vents
Repeated insect traffic entering and leaving the same location could indicate a wasp nest within a roof, wall cavity or another void.

💩 Droppings appearing in kitchens or cupboards
Don’t just clean them away and forget about them. Their size, shape, location and quantity can provide useful information about what’s happening.

🦟 Getting bitten but can’t find the culprit?
Fleas, bed bugs and other insects can sometimes be confused with one another. Correct identification should come before treatment.

One of the biggest mistakes we see is treating the symptom without finding the source.

Professional pest management is about investigating what’s happening, identifying the pest, establishing how it’s accessing the property and deciding on the most appropriate treatment and prevention measures.

So if something really is going bump in the night, you don’t have to lie there wondering what the hell it is. 😂

📸 Photos and videos can also be useful — send them over and we’ll take a look.

🚨 BIG THINGS ARE COMING… 🚨

Over the past few years, Perish-A-Pest has continued to grow thanks to the incredible support of our residential, commercial and agricultural customers across Cornwall.

As demand for our services continues to increase, we’re excited to announce that we’ll soon be welcoming a new team member to join us for training on many of our visits. Some of you may have already had the privilege to meet them.

From day one, they’ve shown fantastic enthusiasm, an excellent attitude, the ability to learn quickly, and a genuine commitment to delivering the high standards our customers have come to expect. Once fully trained and qualified, they’ll become a valuable addition to the business, helping us increase our capacity while maintaining the professional, personal service that Perish-A-Pest is known for.

This is an exciting step forward that will allow us to support more customers, take on additional commercial contracts, reduce waiting times and continue investing in the future of the business.

But that’s not all…

👀 We’re also working behind the scenes on an exciting new service, due to launch later this year.

We can’t say too much just yet, but it’s something we’ve been planning for a long time and we can’t wait to share it with you.

None of this would be possible without the continued support, recommendations and loyalty of our customers.

To everyone who has trusted Perish-A-Pest, recommended us to family and friends, or supported our journey over the years…

Thank you.

The future is looking incredibly exciting, and we’re only just getting started.

🏠🐀 5 SIMPLE WAYS TO PEST-PROOF YOUR HOME

One of the questions we’re regularly asked is: “How can I stop pests getting into my home in the first place?”

The truth is, there’s no way to guarantee you’ll never have a pest problem, but a few simple precautions can significantly reduce the chances of rats, mice and insects deciding to move in.

🔎 1. CHECK FOR POSSIBLE ENTRY POINTS
Rats and mice can exploit surprisingly small openings around buildings. Check around pipework, damaged air bricks, doors, vents and other service penetrations. Remember, though, that not every hole should simply be sealed—particularly where rodents are already active. Finding out how and why they’re getting in should come first.

🍞 2. REMOVE EASY FOOD SOURCES
Keep food in sealed containers, clean up spillages and avoid leaving pet food accessible overnight. Outside, pay particular attention to bird feeders, chicken feed, composting and poorly secured bins. A reliable food source can encourage rodents to remain in an area.

🧹 3. REDUCE CLUTTER
Pests love somewhere quiet and undisturbed. Excessive clutter can provide harbourage and make the early signs of an infestation much harder to spot.

🌳 4. DON’T FORGET OUTSIDE
Overgrown vegetation, accumulated rubbish and materials stored against buildings can all provide shelter. Keep an eye on drainage too—persistent rat activity inside a property can sometimes be associated with defects within the drainage system, so simply putting down bait may not solve the underlying problem.

👀 5. KNOW THE WARNING SIGNS
Droppings, gnaw marks, scratching noises, damaged food packaging, unusual smells or repeated pest sightings shouldn’t be ignored.

Catching a problem early can make it considerably easier to investigate and control.

⚠️ And one important piece of advice…

If you’ve got an active rodent infestation, don’t immediately start filling every hole you can find. Sealing an active entry point without understanding the infestation can potentially trap rodents inside the building or cause them to find another route.

A professional pest inspection isn’t just about killing what’s there. It’s about working out what the pest is, where it’s coming from, why it’s there and what can be done to reduce the chances of it happening again.

That’s exactly what we do at Perish-A-Pest Pest Control.

🐝 ASIAN HORNET OR EUROPEAN HORNET? BEFORE YOU PANIC… READ THIS!

We’ve had quite a few messages recently from people convinced they’ve found an Asian Hornet. Thankfully, the vast majority turn out to be our native European Hornet.

As pest control professionals, we completely understand why people are concerned, but correctly identifying the species is important.

🔍 European Hornets are larger, have a reddish-brown head and thorax, and a bright yellow abdomen with black markings.

⚫ Asian Hornets are usually smaller, much darker overall, have an orange face, a single orange band towards the rear of the abdomen and distinctive yellow leg tips.

⚠️ If you genuinely believe you’ve found an Asian Hornet, don’t disturb the nest or attempt to treat it yourself. Take a clear photograph if it’s safe to do so and report the sighting through the official government reporting system.

If it’s a European Hornet and the nest is causing a problem around your home or business, we’re fully equipped to deal with it safely and professionally.

Not every large wasp is an Asian Hornet, and not every hornet nest needs the same response.

📸 Unsure what you’ve found?

Send us a clear photo via Facebook or WhatsApp before booking. We’re always happy to identify it for you and give honest advice—saving you unnecessary worry and ensuring the right action is taken.
