We’re delighted to announce that Opus Utility Solutions Ltd has been awarded a framework contract with SP Electricity North West, supporting the delivery of customer-driven connections activity across Manchester, in their southern region.

The framework will see our teams delivering a comprehensive, end-to-end service, including:

⚡ Excavation
⚡️ Cable laying and installation
⚡ Points of connection
⚡ Jointing
⚡ Backfill and reinstatement

This is another significant award for Opus and further strengthens our position as a trusted delivery partner within the UK electricity distribution sector.

Greater Manchester is an important region for us, and we’re looking forward to working collaboratively with SP Electricity North West, local authorities, communities and other stakeholders to deliver these works safely, efficiently and with minimal disruption to customers and the travelling public.

A huge amount of work goes on behind the scenes to secure opportunities like this, so thank you to everyone across Opus who has contributed.

A new chapter for Opus Utility Solutions.

As Opus continues to grow, so does the way we lead the business.

With immediate effect, Thomas Walsh has been appointed Managing Director of Opus Group, progressing from his role as Group Business Director.

Founders Gavin O'Connor and Amy O’Connor will move from Co-Managing Directors to Non-Executive Directors, remaining on the Board while Tom and the Senior Leadership Team take responsibility for the day-to-day leadership of the Group.

Opus is on track to deliver in excess of £40m turnover this financial year, supported by long-term frameworks, a strong forward order book and significant opportunities for further growth.

Tom has played a major part in the development of Opus since joining the business, and his appointment reflects both his contribution to date and our confidence in him to lead the next phase.

Gavin and Amy commented:

“Opus has come a long way, but we genuinely believe the biggest opportunity is still ahead of us.

We have complete confidence in Tom and the leadership team. Moving into Non-Executive roles allows us to focus on the long-term strategy of the Group, while giving Tom clear responsibility for leading the business day to day.

The leadership is in place. The work is secured. Now it’s about scale.”

Over the past few weeks, we have brought together more than 300 colleagues across five Safety Standards Stand Down sessions in Leigh and Edinburgh, reinforcing our commitment to keeping safety at the heart of everything we do.

These sessions focused on the standards that matter most across our business, including:

👷🏻 PPE Compliance
🚧 Signing, Lighting & Guarding
⚡️ Jointing – Critical Safety
🚛 Plant & Transport Safety
🦺 Site, Yard & Compound Safety
⛑️ Utility Avoidance & HSG47

The sessions also provided a valuable opportunity for our operational teams to hear directly from Thomas Walsh, Group Business Director, on the progress we’ve made as a business over the last six months and the strategic priorities that will shape the next six months. Keeping our people informed and engaged with the wider business is just as important as maintaining the highest safety standards.

Gemma Gale, Head of Business Governance, said:

“Our Safety Standards Stand Downs are about far more than compliance—they’re about creating a culture where everyone understands their responsibility to work safely, challenge poor standards and look after one another.

The first six months of the year have given us valuable learning across the business. We’ve seen many examples of excellent standards, but we’ve also identified opportunities to improve consistency and reinforce the behaviours that keep our people and the public safe.

Yesterday, Team Opus laced up their running shoes and took on the Manchester 10K in support of Young Lives vs Cancer💙🏃🏃‍♀️

This charity holds a very special place in our hearts as our colleague Paul’s daughter is currently bravely fighting leukaemia. We wanted to come together as a team to support not only Paul and his family, but also the incredible work that Young Lives vs Cancer does for children and families facing cancer.

We’re incredibly proud to say that every member of Team Opus crossed the finish line, and thanks to the amazing generosity of our friends, family, customers and supporters, we’ve raised an incredible £3,812!

A huge thankyou to everyone who donated, shared our fundraiser, cheered us on, and helped us reach this fantastic total. Your support will make a real difference to families who need it most.
