🔩💪 Bullfix Fixings – Have These Got to Be the Best Fixings Out There?!

If you’re fixing anything to dot and dab or plasterboard stud walls, these Bullfix fixings have got to be some of the best on the market! 👌

We’ve been using these for a while now, and I’ve got to say, I’m seriously impressed! Strong, secure and easy to install. They make life so much easier when you need a solid fixing in plasterboard. 🔧

There’s nothing worse than a fixing that doesn’t hold properly, especially when you’re fitting something that needs to stay put!

🔥 What’s lurking behind your gas fire? 😳🐦

You never quite know what you’re going to find when you remove a gas fire!

On this particular job, we discovered a load of twigs and birds’ nesting material that had built up in the chimney behind the fire! 🪹

This is exactly why it’s so important to have your gas fire regularly serviced and safety checked.

A blocked or restricted chimney can prevent the products of combustion from escaping safely, potentially allowing dangerous carbon monoxide to enter your home. ⚠️

Just because your gas fire appears to be working fine doesn’t mean everything behind it is safe!

🔧🤔 Has anyone else noticed this on the Vokèra Easi-Heat boilers?

There’s a little rainwater collector fitted at the top of the boiler, but the pipe doesn’t actually reach far enough to connect to it! 😂

After doing a bit of research, I’ve discovered that apparently this little gadget doesn’t have the necessary approval for use here in the UK, so it can’t be connected and is just left capped off!

Seems a bit strange to manufacture a boiler with something fitted that we can’t actually use! 🤷‍♂️

Has anyone else spotted this or know any more about why it’s fitted in the first place? I’d be interested to hear your thoughts! 👇

🔧 It’s not always just about the job we’ve been called out to do!

Quite often, whilst carrying out work in customers’ properties, we come across other issues that need attention.

That’s why we normally build a little contingency into our quotes for exactly these situations! 👍

On this particular job, we discovered a pipe that had clearly been leaking for a very long time. Someone had even marked where the leak was, presumably the previous owners, but nothing had ever been done about it! 😳💧

So, whilst we were there, we:
✅ Repaired the leaking pipework
✅ Installed a pressure reducing valve to bring the water pressure down
✅ Properly clipped and supported pipework that had been left loose
✅ Fitted an additional isolation valve for future maintenance

All sorted whilst carrying out the original work!

For us, it’s about doing the job properly, not just turning up, doing the bare minimum and walking away.

Another problem spotted, another problem sorted, and another job done properly! 💪🔥

It’s amazing what you find when you start looking! 👀

💷 THE PRICE OF MATERIALS IS GETTING RIDICULOUS! 🤯🔧

£31 for ONE length of copper pipe from a well-known high street retailer! 😳💸

And people wonder why tradespeople have to put their prices up!

The cost of materials seems to be going through the roof, and unfortunately, these increases have to be reflected in the prices we charge our customers.

We’re not putting prices up for the fun of it! Running a business is getting more and more expensive, and we still have to make a living.

It’s getting absolutely ridiculous now!

💦🔧 WHEN A SMALL LEAK TURNS INTO A BIG PROBLEM! 😳

We were investigating a water leak, and as soon as we lifted the floor and started checking the heating pipework, the copper pipe literally fell apart in our hands! 😱💦

The strange thing is, there was no visible corrosion! This pipework had been sitting there for over 20 years, and it just came apart when we disturbed it!

This just shows why you’ve always got to be prepared when working on older heating systems. Make sure you’ve got your tubs, towels and wet vac at the ready, because you never know what’s going to happen! 😂

👨‍🔧 Fellow engineers, have you ever come across copper pipework that’s been fine for 20-odd years, then suddenly falls apart when you touch it, with no obvious signs of corrosion?

⚠️ BE VERY, VERY CAREFUL WHEN WORKING IN PEOPLE’S LOFTS! ⚠️

Well, that was a close one! 😬 It very nearly went straight through my knee! Luckily, I spotted it just in time!

You really do come across all sorts of crazy things when working in people’s lofts! From exposed nails and screws to dodgy boarding and hidden hazards, you never know what you’re going to find!

It’s so easy to get caught out, especially when you’re crawling around in tight spaces!

A little reminder to all you tradespeople out there: watch where you’re putting your hands, knees and feet! ⚠️
