AH Tree Surgeon Award winning tree surgery and consultancy firm priding themselves on being friendly, honest and reliable. RFS Certified Arborist status.

Technician member of the Arb Association. Based in Nantwich, Cheshire. As a customer myself I know how daunting and stressful it can be to be in need of a tradesperson and I have been stung by a few myself. Therefore, I strive to be reliable and maintain an open and honest approach with everyone who contacts me for my services. My career started in utility arboriculture (Tree Surgery near power lines) which means that I have a very safety conscious mindset when looking at all jobs. As time progressed I gained experience working for other companies near railways and on domestic and commercial jobs. This gave me a range of experiences to then set out and go into business on my own as both a subcontractor and Independent Tree Surgeon. I will consider a range of tasks however find myself doing jobs such as tree felling, pruning, crown reduction, crown lifting, pollarding, dead wooding, hedge trimming, stump grinding and eco plugging. Along with these tasks I clear the site and chip the wood where appropriate. My team and I are qualified and insured giving peace of mind to all customers. Please do not hesitate to get in touch and see if I can help you.

🌲 Before | During | After

This conifer removal was completed as part of preparing a property for sale. The tree had outgrown the space, dominated a large section of the garden and had become a source of issues with neighbouring properties.

Access to the site was restricted, so the tree was carefully dismantled in sections and each piece was safely taken through the property before processing and removing from site.

The removal has opened up the garden considerably, creating a much more usable space and improving the overall feel of the area.

🌳 Tree Survey Spotlight – Looking Beyond the Defect

We were recently recommended to a new client by a fellow arboricultural professional after their previous tree surveyor retired. The client was keen to continue taking a responsible approach to tree management and requested an inspection of this mature English oak (Quercus robur).

The survey confirmed a significant internal cavity within the main stem, extending approximately 80cm internally. While defects of this nature can appear alarming, assessing risk requires consideration of the whole tree, not just the defect itself.

This oak was pollarded around 15 years ago, and as a result the current crown loading is substantially reduced compared to what it would have been historically. This reduction in crown mass and sail area means the defective stem is not subjected to the same mechanical demands it once carried.
The inspection highlights the value of periodic tree safety assessments, particularly for mature trees situated close to gardens, buildings and other regularly occupied areas. Defects can develop gradually over many years, and professional inspection allows informed, proportionate management decisions to be made based on evidence rather than assumption.

Tree risk management is rarely black and white. The presence of a defect does not automatically mean a tree is unsafe, but understanding the extent of that defect and its implications is essential for responsible ownership.
If you would like a clear, professional assessment of your trees, we provide tree inspections and risk assessments for homeowners, landowners and property managers across the area.

Another transformation completed for one of our regular clients 🌳✨

This project involved the felling of a mature group of ash trees along with a small birch to open up the garden and improve the stunning view across towards Peckforton and Beeston Castle.

The client wanted to create a brighter, more open space while reducing the amount of leaf, twig and seed debris accumulating throughout the garden each year. With careful planning and safe working practices, the trees were felled efficiently and the timber was retained on site for the client.

The difference in light, openness and the overall feel of the garden is huge ☀️
Always grateful for returning clients trusting AH Tree Surgeon with their projects.

Your tree isn’t “just going brown”, the symptoms tell a story.

At AH Tree Surgery and Consultancy we were recently called to inspect a Scots Pine that had been turning brown every couple of years for nearly 20 years. The owner thought it was normal, but the needles told a very different story.

On closer inspection, the tree showed classic signs of Lophodermium needle cast, a fungal disease that affects Scots Pine and causes long‑term weakening if left unmanaged.

The needles displayed several key features:

- Hysterothecia: tiny black fungal fruiting bodies produced by Lophodermium, which release spores and spread the infection
- Transverse banding: pale horizontal bands caused by the fungus disrupting the needle’s internal structure
- Necrotic needle tissue: brown, dead patches where the fungus has already killed the needle cells

These aren’t random marks. They are indicators of Lophodermium needle cast, and they explain exactly why the tree kept browning in cycles year after year.

This is why proper tree surveying matters. A trained eye can spot what others overlook, and help you understand why your tree keeps declining and “recovering” without ever truly getting better.

If your trees are browning, thinning, or acting strangely, we can diagnose the real cause and advise on the best way forward.
