🔴 Turning Hay 🔴

For all that has been asking the process of making hay, this is the next step after mowing.

Why we turn it ⁉️

To dry it evenly! Fresh-cut grass is 70-80% water. If you leave it in a big clump, the bottom stays damp and will go moldy/rot. Turning flips it so sun and air hit all sides, Hay needs to get down to 15% moisture before baling, or it can heat up and even catch fire in the bale. Turning cuts drying time to 1-2 days.
A machine called a "tedder" or "hay turner" fluffs the cut grass and spreads it out.

It’s time for us to give the Golf Course at the Gnoll Country Park it’s annual cut, we will be bailing it ready to feed to the cattle during the winter months 🐄
