🪵🔨 From wood rot to a brand-new suspended timber floor.

The team are finishing a wood rot project in the Wirral, replacing the suspended timber floor and getting this home back together. 🏡👏

Wood rot develops where timber is exposed to suitable moisture conditions for fungal decay. Over time, affected structural timber can lose strength and require repair or replacement.

But simply fitting new timber isn't enough.

The important question is: why did the original floor deteriorate? 🔍

A proper wood rot investigation can consider:

💧 Sources of moisture beneath the floor
🌬️ Sub-floor ventilation and airflow
🧱 Damp masonry around timber bearings

🌡️ Why can cold walls lead to condensation and mould? 💧🍄

Jordan is getting this wall prepared for Isotherm, applying the adhesive before the system is installed. 👷‍♂️🧱

Condensation can form when warm, moisture-laden air meets a sufficiently cold surface. That's why colder external walls and particular areas of a home can sometimes experience repeated condensation and black mould growth.

Isotherm is designed to improve the thermal characteristics of the internal wall surface, helping to raise its surface temperature.

That can provide several benefits:

🌡️ Warmer internal wall surfaces
💧 Reduced risk of surface condensation
🍄 Less favourable conditions for black mould
🏡 Improved thermal comfort
🧱 A surface that can then be appropriately finished

But Isotherm isn't simply a case of covering up mould.

A good condensation strategy should consider ventilation, heating, indoor humidity, moisture production and the building fabric before deciding what measures are appropriate.

🧱🌧️ When did you last check the pointing on your home?

Ryan's getting this repointing work completed, helping keep the external brickwork protected against the weather. 👷‍♂️👏

Mortar joints aren't just there to make brickwork look tidy. As pointing deteriorates, gaps and cracks can make external walls more vulnerable to wind-driven rain and penetrating moisture. 💧

Look out for:

🧱 Crumbling or powdery mortar
🔍 Gaps between bricks
🌧️ Cracked or weathered joints
💧 Damp patches that worsen after rainfall

It's also why investigating an internal damp patch should include checking the outside of the property.

Sometimes the solution isn't another treatment inside. It's repairing the defect that's allowing water in.
