Class Q is a permitted development right from the local authority, allowing certain former agricultural buildings to be converted into residential dwellings.
This has recently been updated, allowing up to 10 new homes and 1,000m² of total floor space on qualifying sites.
However there are a few catches:
- Individual dwellings are capped at 150m²
- The existing structure must be structurally sound and reused within the scheme
- Prior approval from the local authority is required to assess access, floor risk and natural light.
We have recently gained planning approval for our Hay Barn project in Northamptonshire, converting a large hay barn into a family home.
If you are planning a barn conversion, we’d love to hear from you to discuss your project.
