Each year in Mental Health Awareness Week there is a main theme. This year it is anxiety.
There are numerous reasons why a person may experience anxiety and we have all felt anxious at some point in our lives.
It's important to remember that anxiety is a complex condition influenced by various factors, and different individuals may have different triggers. High levels of stress from work, relationships, finances, trauma, genetics, chemical imbalances, medical conditions, substance abuse, personality traits, phobias, social anxiety, life changes, chronic illness, and negative thinking patterns or other life events can contribute to anxiety.
My anxiety mainly comes when I need to drive to a new place, or something new happening in my life, it’s the fear of the unknown.
Here are some anxiety techniques you can try are, Deep Breathing, Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR), Mindfulness Meditation, Visualisation, Challenge Negative Thoughts, Self-Care.
Remember, it's important to note that this is not an exhaustive list, and it's important to find what works best for you, as different techniques may resonate differently with individuals. Experiment with these techniques and be patient with yourself as you develop your anxiety management toolkit.
