Welcome to Erratics - Specialist in commission work ranging from green oak garden structures to bespoke kitchen design and build. Since turning 50 Mike Tuer rediscovered interest in working with wood and its natural structural design, following in his forefathers before him as master carpenters. Looking for inspiration during the conversion of a barn at the centre of our farm I visited Mount Grace

Priory in Yorkshire. There, an original monk’s cell was being recreated using ‘green’ oak in the structural build and the beautiful but simple furniture. Green Oak is unseasoned, cut and worked with little ‘drying out’

We began to use green oak very successfully in the design of our farmhouse & many projects that followed. That naturally led to me using off - cuts and interesting pieces from the massive oak beams for small pieces of furniture, low benches, coffee and side tables.These fitted in well with our contempary building design and existing family antiques.

Are you walking the Ullswater Way this year? A 20-mile walking route around Ullswater which can be walked in either direction and from any starting point. Why not walk the route in shorter sections, using an open top bus or an Ullswater Steamers to start your journey!

**** we are delighted to be runner up in the window competition *****
Our festive window this year ( picture taken by the chamber of Commerce ) , myself and Laura G did the outside foliage window decor, the snowflakes and wolf are from Joe at Croglin Designs and the freehand sign writing by Jill Liley, we were going to do Narnia ( hence the lamppost ) but by the time we’d got on with the rest of it there was a rather good Narnia window nearby! So hence the wolf in winter! Anyway call by and have a look when it’s not streamed up ( the joys of fresh flowers and plants) , I’ve wreaths, plants, flowers and locally made cards and decorations and new for Christmas ‘Bous’ candles made in Penrith by Kate!
