Some great work recently by one of our peatland teams working on the beautiful Invercauld Estate 👌🏻

Another peatland restoration project has been taking place at Invercauld this year – this time in the aptly named Mosses. This is about 6km north-west of Balmoral Castle and is part of the largest single expanse of peat hags at Invercauld.

The photo shows the dramatic- and quick – effect of reprofiling and blocking a gully. The dark, exposed peat has been reprofiled and revegetated from nearby donor turf to stop it eroding further, and the water flow has been slowed by dams. This improves the habitat for insects and birdlife and stops the further release of carbon from the surrounding peat mass by protecting it from being eroded further.
