Fire damage is stressful enough. The restoration process should not add to it.

Following a fire at a home in Newbury, the team from ServiceMaster Clean By Deeland was brought in to professionally clean the fire and smoke damage and prepare the property for redecoration.

Within just one week of insurer approval, the restoration work was complete. Our self-contained vehicles and truck-mounted equipment meant we could work without relying on the property’s power or water supply, helping minimise disruption for the homeowner.

The result? A clean, safe property ready for the next stage of recovery, and some brilliant feedback from the customer.

With thunderstorms forecast over the next few days and flood warnings in place across parts of the country, homes and businesses could face an increased risk of flooding.

And when water gets in, the visible damage may only be the start. Floodwater can spread beneath flooring, behind walls and into building materials, while contaminated water can create further concerns.

If your property is affected, ServiceMaster Restore can help from the initial assessment through to recovery. Our restoration teams can provide water extraction, sanitisation, specialist drying, and moisture monitoring to help identify hidden water and reduce the risk of further damage.

We work with homeowners, businesses, insurers and loss adjusters to manage the restoration process and help properties recover as quickly and safely as possible.

After weeks of hot, dry weather, flooding might be the last thing on your mind.

But very dry ground can struggle to absorb sudden, heavy rainfall. Add an intense summer storm and overwhelmed drains, and flash flooding can develop quickly.

So, why can the flood risk actually increase after a heatwave?

Our latest blog explains what happens, the warning signs to watch for, and how you can prepare your home or business.

Anyone else nearly drop their phone when that Government Emergency Alert went off at the weekend? 🚨📱

Once the heart rate returned to normal, the message was an important one.

The alert warned of a very high wildfire risk, with dry conditions meaning even a small flame could develop into a serious fire.

If fire affects your home or business, ServiceMaster Restore can help with fire and smoke damage restoration, soot removal, odour treatment, specialist cleaning, and contents recovery.

What actually happens after water damage? 💧

Removing the standing water is only the first step.

Professional restoration involves assessing the damage, extracting water, sanitising where required, controlled drying and regular moisture monitoring. Once drying is complete, salvageable carpets, furniture and other contents can also be cleaned and restored where possible.

The process can take several weeks, but every phase has a purpose: reducing further damage and getting your property ready for the next stage of recovery.

ServiceMaster Restore manages the process from initial assessment through to drying and restoration.

Your mirror could start a fire. ☀️🔥

It sounds surprising, but concave mirrors, such as makeup or shaving mirrors, can focus sunlight onto a small area. This concentrates the sun’s energy, creating enough heat to cause nearby curtains, bedding, paper or furnishings to smoulder and potentially London Fire Brigade specifically advises keeping mirrors, crystals, glass ornaments and other reflective items out of direct sunlight.

If the unexpected does happen, ServiceMaster Restore can help with fire and smoke damage restoration, soot removal, odour treatment, specialist cleaning and contents recovery.

How often do you test your smoke alarms?

The answer depends entirely on where you are.

Here is the quick breakdown:

AT HOME:

- Test at least once a month
- Press and hold the test button until it sounds.
- Pro-Tip: Pick an easy date to remember, like the 1st of every month.

COMMERCIAL & RENTAL PROPERTIES:
- Test once a week.
- Test hardwired units or panel systems.
- Log the results in your building safety book.

The Golden Rule for Both: Replace the entire unit every 10 years!
